    2007 Scorecard - #22 Matthew Laidlaw

    Go for it.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

While Laidlaw only play the one game against Geelong I would not want to "fail him". Looked OK in his only opportunity at a wet and windy (ie normal day at Kardinia Park) with good poise and mostly effective kicking skills.

Saw a number of reserve games at SCG and Laidlaw, albeit against weak opposition, were he showed plenty of speed, strong marking ability, kick multiple goals and I think he plays taller than his actual 185cm.

I hope that he is pushing for selection regularly in 2008.

    Cheers

I thought he did very well against the cats and I was very disappointed he didn't get another chance. I always liked the look of him in the ressies and I hope gets another shot this year.

Even in his best games for the reserves he tended to drift in and out of games. Sometimes was handicapped by being removed at half-time of a game as an emergency but am yet to see him dominate a full game of reserves footy the way some of the younger graduates regularly have done.

No doubt he has the speed, marking skill and kicking ability to play good senior football but whether it is concentration or endurance still holding him back, he still has another step to take.

I was reasonably pleased with what I saw, but we'll see how he goes next year 5/10.

5/10. Same as Justice. (except we won't talk about that kick at goal)

Just haven't seen enough of him in the 1st's for a proper review but from what i have seen i'll say 5/10.
Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

Has to worth at least a few games next year. Havent seen him play in ACTFL, though he didnt look out of place against the premiers as a 1st gamer..
Where does he usually play in the 2nds?

I didn't actually see the Geelong game (I was working and very rarely watch the replay of a loss), but for a second year player to get a game and perform well against the eventual premiers is a good effort in my book.
                  But, as I haven't seen him, I can't give him a score.

I was really pleased with his debut and I am still on the bandwagon.

Worried though by the acquisition of Mattner as I see this as a block to Laidlaw's progression into the 1"s.

Matty is an exciting proposition for us.
Real student of the game and he showed enough in his only game. Has pace , good build and is has a great kick, one that breaks the lines. Looking forward to watching him improve.
Like Jewells want him to play continuous footy in the ones

5/10 - Impressive in the 2's and did OK in the wet conditions at Skilled, will have plenty of more opportunities this season and hopefully a handy addition in the midfield.

                            Not really a midfielder though.

I have mentioned before, I see him as ROK without the engine. That said, ROK didn't have ROK's engine either at that age, so hopes are high. He has very similar attributes to ROK.

This guy is a seriously good overhead mark.

I hadn't really thought of him those terms before but I think you're pretty much on the money with that observation. He's probably got O'Keefe covered for short range pace.
