      Or Marty Mattner.

Depends on how you look at things.

We got Mattner with our own pick 28, but traded Schneider and Dempster for 26, which we used to get Meredith.

It was really all one deal:

          In: Mattner, pick 26 (Merideth)

          Out: Scheinder, Dempster, pick 28

As noted we effectively dropped a pick, swapped Scheinder for Mattner and punted Dempster for a youngster in Merideth.

            But they weren't interrelated.

              Says who?

Roos indicated that the need to trade Schneider/Bolton / Monty was at least partly salary cap driven. He also expressed a desire to trade back into the second round of the draft.

Had we not targeted Mattner, chances are that the salary cap would have been under less pressure. (Reportedly the contract offered to Mattner was quite healthy.) And we would still have had a second round pick. There is every likelihood that Meredith would have been available at pick 28.

So it is hard to see the two trades as completely unrelated. Had the Mattner trade not taken place (nor anything else equivalent) there is every chance that Schneider would still be with us. Sure, we can say for sure that Schneider wouldn't have been traded in any case, but it's not an unreasonable proposition.

                OK, OK.

Looking at it from that perspective, I see your point, now.

I was looking from a simplistic, picks/players swap.
                Geesh.

I personally hope Schneider has a great year and shows the form we all know wins games. I hope he is injury free and finishes in the Saints' top 5-10 best @ fairest.

I think Dempster is the more likely to gnaw our arse.

Unfortunately both players were giant underachievers at the Swans. I suspect the trade will end up being good for all parties.

                          Still secksy.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Schneider looked very fit as well.
