    Souths tell Taylor to chase Swans

    LOL I love this quote

    But considering the Swans have at least 27,000 and Souths are striving to sign up their 10,000th, Taylor may find winning a premiership an easier target.

    Fat chance of doing wither within three years.

      Didn't mean to start this thread but now that I have I'll add my 2c for what its worth.

      Wouldn't Holmes a whats his name be better off concentrating on the number of Sydney members. The figure of 27,000 Swans members I would think includes Melbourne based members??.

      I remember Danny Frawley had a similar incentive clause in his contract. Hmmm don't think it worked to well for him or Richmond. Good luck Jason

          I just think it is a bonus that we have become part of the NSW id. People even know know in NSW what that coach is talking about when he refers to us and it also presents us in a positive light in that they are chasing us not the other way round.

            Yes. It is a good sign. Shows how much the club has overtaken the existing games, in Sydney, compare with 15-20 years ago, when the Swans struggled to get half a crowd.

              OK, aside from being the only gig in town, a swannies home game regularly draws 20K+.
              Thugby leaguers can only dream of a crowd that big.
              Especially souths.

                It reminds me somewhat of the target that the company I work for uses to determine the annual bonus pool.
                I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
                We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

                  Not sure where they pulled those figures from, but it looks to be the self imposed membership cap that we have in Sydney so that we have a number of GA seats at each game.

                  While it's approx, I beleive last years split on members was:

                  * Sydney 23,300
                  * Melbourne 9,200
                  * Total 32,500

                    If I heard correctly on Sunday, the average A-League crowd is now better or very close to RL's average crowd numbers.

                    They must be getting very worried about what soccer is doing.

                      Certainly.
                      I think the average numbers for a thugby game are around the 10K mark, and falling.

                        Souths management have spent a lot of time in Melbourne over the past year or so, trying to model themselves on Collingwood. The biggest jealousy that NRL clubs have is the membership culture AFL clubs have. It just brings in so much revenue in one hit.

                        Sydney just doesn't have the culture of buying Season Tickets/memberships though. The Swans very lucky that demand in late 1996 outstripped seat availability so that the membership culture quickly caught on for 1997 and beyond. (How finals tickets are allocated in the AFL assisted this also)

                        However, if any NRL club is going to get those sort of membership figures, a successful Souths is most likely, they truly do have one hell of a massive fan base scattered across NSW.

                          Sorry Annie but that's not correct.

                              Ok then. Still ... we average an extra 10K per game - and we only have one a fortnight. Compare the sizes of crowds at "rugby games in NSW" with "AFL in Victoria" - AFL still wins, hands-down.
