You're not being cynical are you, or is it, just like me, that you have been watching the Swans for too long?

Realistic may be the word you are looking for here.

I'm seriously hoping that he and Craig Bird both play this year... With Mattner & Playfair, it might be just the injection of fresh blood we need.

            McVeigh a mentor????
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.

Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

He's what's known as a 'dementor'. He is providing guidance on what not to do. At the end of the process, Meredith will be 'demented'.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

What, does he chill the air wherever he goes, spreading despair and eating people's souls?

No, different sort to the Harry Potter variety. This one (the 'de-mentor') just lurks on the periphery of a pack and feeds off easy handballs by the 'hardballgetter'. He won't advise anyone else to do same, or he's out of a job.

Mattner will be great, but Playfair is just another waste of space. Lots of potential but never really achieves.

A bit like Barry Hall in his St Kilda years?
And the man who started it all, the Schneiderman . . . . .
