    Dempster

I called in on the Saints intra club match on Friday (I was in the area). The word going around was how good is this Dempster.Seems he was relatively unknown by Saints fans but he's not now after a showy display, including a couple of goals from long runs.Schneider didn't do alot from what I saw, kicked a couple of goals,I heard.
Maybe we have made a big error in letting the Dumpster go.It looks as though he's gunna "stick it up us".Good for him.
I personally did not see Schneider and was just told he had played an early cameo.I think I had the mickey taken out of me.Thanks 2005!

Was down there as well, and Dempster looked pretty good.
looked much bigger in the Saints gear, as I said in player reviews I think this trade will bite us.
    Smasher, Schneider didnt play.

Looks like we had more people watching the Saints game than the Swans one . A true fan scouts the opposition..well done team

P.s. I was always pissed off about the Dempster loss.

Precisely. Let's see how he goes in the real stuff.

Putting it that way, as much as I liked Dempster as a player, I think Mattner is better.

There is only one mention of Dempster in the Saints fans review of the game and that is that he kicked a couple of goals. You guys may have been a bit more taken with him then the Saints fans were.

He had ability, problem was he was never able to show that week in and out.

Any talk of whether Dempster should have been retained should be left for 18 months once he is into his second year at St Kilda.

Dempster and Roos were not made for each other. Will be interesting to see what Lyon brings out in him.

No its is Brennan > Dempster.
They both play the same position. But Dempster can play as a wingman and tagger as well.

But Dempster was traded cause he wouldnt get "enough opportunities" and Brennan was upgraded to the senior list. Crap.

We will rue letting both Dempster and Schneider go when we have @@@@s like Mathews, Bevan and Brennan running around.

I am not sure about that. Roos was a vocal fan of Dempster's a few years ago. But I agree that as at the end of last season, he seemed to have lost that faith.

Even if Dempster become a really good player with the Saints, there is no guarantee that he would have done at the Swans. As many have observed before, he seems to have all the tools except a belief that he can impose himself on games. Even at reserves level he didn't really do that.

In contrast, when Barlow went back to the reserves team for the ACTAFL GF, he was playing like a senior player who had a new found responsibility to influence the game. It wasn't a complete success in that in some ways he was trying too hard. But it was a demeanour that I don't think I ever saw from Dempster when he was demoted, despite far more senior experience than Barlow.

It may be that going to a new environment where he comes in as an experienced player (and a premiership one at that - not many of those at the Saints!) will help him change his mindset so that he plays like a senior player, not someone lucky to be in the team.

That's an interesting observation Liz, as I remember it, his father was exactly the same when he played senior football for South. Had all the attributes to be a classy half forward, just couldn't do it week in week out.

Playing out of position. Should have been groomed into a FB. Would be suprised if he doesn't finish his career playing in the back 6.

Big future IMO. Bad trade....particularly for nothing. A mistake to compare him to Mattner. Mattner is nowhere near as hard.
