    Chance encounter....

I was packing the clubs in the car last Sunday after playing a round of golf when a beautiful Mercedes pulls in. Two young fellas jump out and take off for the mini-golf park whilst the driver takes a little longer to appear. When he does emerge it is none other than the great Bob Skilton. I immediately call out a "G'day Bobby" which is responded with his trademark grin. A minute or two of small talk confirms the Swans are primed for a big year and we're both hopeful of further success. We are very lucky to have a true club legend that remains such a great ambassador of our sport.

This has me wondering though...who has some good stories of chance encounters of our players in unlikely places?

I met Bob Skilton in the Albert Park dry-cleaners about 10 years ago, he was very friendly.

....especially when Davo has just eaten a KFC family meal on his own.

I dropped my car off to be serviced and was walking into Devonport town centre. There was a bloke doing some gardening in a front yard of a cottage..it was Darrel Baldock. I think he is the only AFL legend living in this area of the world so sightings are few and far between. Sorry no Swans but I'm sure he would have liked to have played for the Swans.

Got introduced to Ian Stewart at the local (Clock and Beaver) last year. Apparantly a local and seemed like a thorough gentleman.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

I sat next Roos on a flight back from Melbourne. He had actually pinched my seat but I graciously accepted his so he could be across the aisle from his family.

When I was a younger Salvo officer working in Port Melbourne, I used to take the War Cry into the pubs. One night I met none other than "Mr Football", E. J. "Ted" Whitten. He was as much a character in real life as he was in tv interviews.
