Kirk reflects on pivotal moment of Blood-letting

Kirk reflects on pivotal moment of Blood-letting | The Australian

I think not enough was done to freshen up however if stragglers are dropped to reserves then possibly the younger guys can now feel that they can really apply pressure on the seniors.

    Who is ?:

New coaches have been added, including Mark Stone, who is in charge of the team's clearance strategies and stoppages,
In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.

Here's the quote from Roos at the end...after noting that it was ball use that killed us...

"I made it clear to the players that there might be some guys that we have felt in the past have been very good players, but they turn the ball over. Some guys might suffer," Roos said.

"We have to have our hardness and our tough defensive stuff, we will never go away from that. But in order to get back to where we want to be, we have to use the ball better."

Mmmm it HAS to be this year that "some guys might suffer" if their ball use is crap.

BTW I'm surprised that McVeigh was not in the worst five ball users (Kirk, Buchanan, Fosdike, Bolton and Mathews)
"I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005

I don't think McVeigh's ball usage is all that bad. It's just that last season he didn't get it enough in dangerous situations, and doesn't have the hurt factor with his disposals that a Malceski has.

Buchanan's normally been a pretty creative user of the ball and Kirk is always going to burn some because he gets the ball under so much pressure (and is a limited kick). The likes of Fosdike and Mathews are arguably the worst offenders in that group because they generally get the ball in a little more space than the rest. That's when you have to make the disposals count.

As to the article, it makes a "good" story that everyone was on the table, but Kirk was never ever going anywhere - partly his age, partly his performances last year, but as much as anything, because he's the heartbeat of the team.
