I don't think hoping he gets a run in the seniors is expecting too much of him.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

White impressed me a lot on Sunday. He looked just about ready for the big leagues. I reckon putting him in the backline would be madness. With Hall and O'Loughlin getting on, we're going to need to start developing a new key forward. White looks like the man for the job. He's quick on his feet, takes a good contested mark, and is nice and bulky. He's too small to be a genuine ruckman, and we don't need any more talls in the backline (Bolton, Richards and LRT have that covered, Faulks looks like he might break into the side soon, once he's put on a few more kilos, and Grundy, well, he's OK as backup). Play him in the forward pocket, with Micky at FF and Bazza at CHF. I hope he gets a run early in the season.Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!Comment

Are we expecting too much from Jesse?
He was drafted at pick 79 in 2006. Other Swan draftees in the 70's were Ricky Mott at 74 in 2001 and Simon Feast was 71 in 1998.
I like what I've seen so far and hope he becomes a permanent fixture in the side but I'm looking at history and it's saying no future.
We've had a few big lumps of lads in the past few years that have not gone on with it.
Why will Jesse be any different?Comment

We don't need a CHB! We've got Bolton and LRT to be our defensive spine. Richards and Barry can both play that sort of role as well, and we have Grundy around. I don't think Grundy is in our best 22, but he isn't bad backup.
We already have a full backline:
B: Richards Bolton Barry
HB: Kennelly LRT Mattner
With maybe a small midfielder who can play in defence on the bench, that's a full backline. Plenty of talls, in any case, and that's what we're talking about. There's no room for White there. God, that really hurt not being able to put Malceski in, although he probably would have played in the middle this year anyway. Still, ouch!
Anyway, let's take a look at our forward line:
HF O'Keefe Hall (McVeigh)
F Davis O'Loughlin (White)
Those are our only really set players in the forward line, if you ask me. That leaves a half-forward and a forward pocket. White could probably play either. On the one hand, he'd be closer to goal in the forward pocket, but on the other, he'd get more of the ball across half-forward, and he looks like he's mobile and a decent user of the ball, so that could be good, and give him confidence. Either way, I think he'd do well. The other position could be filled by a Bolton or a McVeigh or something. I'd prefer McVeigh. I really like the look of him when he goes forward. So I've put those two in brackets. I reckon that looks like our best forward line.Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!Comment

I'm sure you'll find there's more to that story than meets the number. His grandfather was a bummers legend after all.
I'm saying lets review Jesse after 6 senior games because most people have only seen him play twice and that was in the first pre-season game.
Ryan O'Connor was very impressive in his first few games too.In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.Comment

The thing i like about J Dubb is that (as stell pointed out in another thread) he is genuinely enthusiastic about being out on the field. You can see he is really enjoying his football out there and it is having an effect on the way he plays. So add the two together (which Jesse has both of) and then we have a player with alot of excitement and potential.Official Driver Of The "Who Gives A @@@@ As The Player Will Get Delisted Anyway" Bandwagon.

I thought he rucked really well giving away a bit of height and reach against Minson, I'm sure he won 5 or 6 contests straight and ended up getting a free kick from Minson then goaling. He did quite well.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline

I think for a guy with a big leap it actually benefits you against taller opponents. If you're able to make body contact with your opponent because you're jumping before they are jumping and thereby minimizing the height your opponent can jump. I think this is what made Goodesy so devastating in the ruck. The fact he is also so athletic at his height makes him equally dangerous. As we saw in the Hawthorne game he can run off his man providing a very difficult positional matchup when the ball is in general play.Comment
