Sure he's a great clubman and played a lot of games as a "good" footy player, but one of the best???? Pfft....
Oh I couldn't agree more RP. I'm not too sure what's happened in recent years, but all of a sudden most people rate him as one of the greats. Good, solid player and a great clubman. But definitely not one of the all time greats.

I might be in the minority, but I reckon Lockett was better than Carey. I thought he was a better player at St.Kilda too, so it has nothing to do with being biased.

I support that! Frankly Big Tony should be #1 or 2 IMO.

In a pinch ... Hird. As much as I and admire him (and I admire him a lot), I still think Kelly's better.

Can't agree with you there Annie. If there is one player in my time of watching the Swans (this is my 40th year) who I wished had been wearing red and white, it is Hirdy. On his day, no-one could stop him.

I usually don't like compilations like this that span let's say 100 years, because the game evolved during that period and so did the players. How can anybody compare players from let's say first several decades of last century with the players of the nineties and the last decade? How many people are still alive seeing those long dead players of yesteryear playing to make a valid comparison? On reputation?
Sorry, but lists like this always generate a lot of controversy.

                Why not?

When we've produced more Browlow medalists than any other team in the comp, I can expect to see more Swannies on that list.

What????? There are 8 Swans out of 50 in that list, even if you base the breakdown on a 12 team VFL/AFL comp then each team could expect to get about 4 players on that list...we have 8 repeat 8. That's double what we could expect and is a pretty good amount in anyones book.

                      2 in the top 11.
                      3 in the top 15.
                      8 in the top 50.

I reckon we have been given a good run when you look at it in it's entirety. Plus you have to remember it is thew opinion of just one journo.

As much as everyone admired Kels Heart and courage, Hirds skill level and ability to win a game single handedly def puts him above Kel. When you think back to some of the Anzac Day games he dominated and even the game at the dome (i think it was last year) when he kicked that bannana at the death and then hugged the fan, Something Special.... and i hate Essendon
The edge is not the limit, It's just the starting point...
