Article: A result has integrity only when the game does

Richard Hinds has ripped into the pre-season comp in this article which also serves as a defence for Roos and the comments he's alleged to have made on the boundary.

As some have already suggested in the Roos investigation thread, Hinds states
Real integrity belongs to the regular season. Which is why, if the AFL really is concerned about results, it should thank the interchange steward for his report and instead spend its time reviewing tapes of some of Carlton's matches last season when the Blues lost just enough games to gain the priority pick used to draft Matthew Kreuzer and help gain Chris Judd.
But do we really think Dimwitriou and his cronies will sit up and take notice? I doubt it...

    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

I reckon there's a hidden agenda in there somewhere from the AFL. Why wouldn't they investigate Carlton, when everyone knows that they tanked at the end of last season.

And the AFL tried to bribe the Swans from stopping the flow of funding to redevelop the SCG, if Roos kept quite about critisising the rule changes.

The AFL cannot be trusted, it smacks of hypocrisy and arrogance. They have had it in for us, since 2005, when we made Dimwitriou look silly after his ugly comments about our game style.

Not that I usually defend the bunch of clowns that is the AFL, but they don't have any evidence that Carlton tanked. They have nothing to base an investigation on. If an interchange steward overheard Ratten or Pagan telling a player to throw the game, they might have acted differently. Then again, they might not have.

Well didn't they take Brendan Fevola off the field at a crucial time of the game against Essendon I think it was, when they were in a winnable position? They did that to other players too, not just Fevola.

Everyone knows that Carlton tanked, that's why Ratten was forced to defend himself last year, against these allegations.

I just find it hypocritical by the AFL. It's simple, they hate us!!!

Perhaps. But given the allegation, I think the AFL is in no other position but to investigate. I would at least hope they would if it were any other team.

I think we all know that this has more to do with the expelling of hot air and posturing than anything else.

Yeah, but that's still not evidence. They could just claim that Fev was injured, and they didn't want to risk cutting his preseason short by having him tear his hamstring badly or something. Unless somebody in the club testified against Ratten, the AFL wouldn't have a case, and wouldn't bother. Now, maybe they still wouldn't investigate even if there WAS a small amount of evidence, but we don't know, so let's not jump to conclusions. If you ask me, the AFL are incompetent no matter which club you are.

Kerr, Cousins, and I think even Cox spent plenty of time on the bench in our GF's in the last quarter (may have even been the last minutes).
Doesn't mean too much the way the bench is used these days.

The Fev is a full forward. It would be the equivalent of Roosey of taking off Big Bustling with a few minutes to go in a close fair dinkum match. The AFL has no credibility as a national competition. Their laughable drug testing, the shame of the Eagles and the Grand Final they stole and now this.
