    Umpires

Have they done a great job in Swans games since 2005?

I just want to do a survey amongst Swans supporters to see if they've done a great job since 2005 or not!

IMO most of the time no,but at times they are ok.

      I voted occasionally.
Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

They have been crap a lot of the time but that comes down to the @@@@ty rules which have been created and tampered with over the last few years.

Umpiring is a hard and thankless job in any sport and at any level.

Trying to help kids at minky hockey or beginning netballers presents problems as does elite umpiring. No-one will ever get it right.

The umpires are the messengers of the rules committtee that help the game go the way the AFL wants it to go. They want the ball to be tapped on rather than packs form so the holding the ball rule is now interpreted differently. Everyone is having trouble adapting so there will always be dissatisfaction.

Well said Satch - its a bugger of a job, but I ask - is anyone really going to miss Goldspink ??? (well we need another ump to bag of course)
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

As a general rule I think they've been fine, some crazy slip ups (the Jason Ball deliberate out of bounds that was then taken by the wrong player vs. Roos, the Leo Barry bump from the mark vs. Weagles) but those aren't overly common and
as Satch said it really is a tough gig. They're human, if a player can spend their entire life kicking a footy then get out on a field and not kick a perfect drop punt then I think it is fair to expect that at times the umpires might not get it perfectly right 100% of the time.

The quality of umpiring in the AFL could be worse...
              like this.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

They wear funny little shorts on skinny little liegs.

They deserve all the ridicule they get

It depends on whos umpiring the game. In the past if we had Goldstink you knew we would be screwed, nowdays if we have "the beak"(Mclaren) you know we are in for a rough time.
