Is starting to take shape now. I hope the club has advised people with seats on the RHS of the O'Reilly stand that their seats are now restricted viewing! Anybody here effected?

At least all the concourse seating is in place.

Only been to the SCG once so am not that familiar with the ground.

Is the RHS of the O'Reilly stand deep in the forward/back pocket of the ground?

If so, their might not be any restriction viewing.

We are in the second bay of seats from the right, second last row. I think we should be okay, but I doubt the people in that very narrow last bay will be happy.

Those seats would be just back of the 50m arc, they might lose the very corner of the pocket (hard to tell without having a look of course)

Now they'll just have to knock down the O'Reilly and re-do it in that similar style of stand so that they are all aligned

I believe that is planned - according to docs on the SCG website it is.

As long as the O'Reilly exists in its current form one corner of the new stand will be useless as well.

They may as well keep going right around the ground until they get to the members stand. It's a pity they couldn't have lengthened the ground a bit at the same time.

They did!! Or at least the said they were going to. Enough so the 50m circle won't touch the square.

There was a big announcement about it quite a while ago.

They must have plans to re-do the O'Rielly with the same set back pretty quickly, as not ionly s that bay in the O'Rielly stuffed for AFL the top deck of the new stand is also going to have a very big restricted view section in that corner which will look stange on TV.

They should just continue on around the wing to the members stand in one continual sweep of knock down, build, knock down the next and build and so on.

I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

One corner of the Brewongle has always been useless for AFL (and always will be) and there is a bit of the Noble behind the light pole that is useless for anything, though it has seats.

The new light pole will actually come up though the new stand giving restricted views to some seats therein as well.

I've seen the Swans play at every major stadium in the country, including Aurora Stadium in Tasmania, and really, the SCG is just not up to standard as a venue for AFL. Whether it's the shape of the playing surface, restricted viewing areas because of the way the stands have been built, limited seating capacity...the SCG has become like an old patch-work quilt that's seen better days.

That is certainly the case in trying to get out of the O'Reilly stand at the end of a match. I wonder what the arrangements will be when the new stand is finished - surely they will be an improvement. Although, I suppose with the Showgrounds as a barrier, there will always be limits as to how quickly people can get out to Driver Avenue.

All the plans and specs for the new stand are available on the SCG website.

Exit from the O'Reilly should be a lot quicker (a tunnel through the new stand). Exit from the new stand is multilevel with escalators behind the Brewongle.

Emergency evacuation from the O'Reilly has always been into Fox Studios. The new stand will also have emergency exits into Fox.

There will be a large outdoor Food Court in the corner behind the new stand with views into Fox. This might not be ready to start with though.

All the floodlighting (not just the two new poles) is being replaced with the latest technology and will allegedly be significantly brighter and more even

It's a hell of a lot better than AAMI.

In what way? I thought AAMI was OK as a football venue. The only problem I had with it is that if you don't drive, you're totally reliant on buses to get to and from there - there's no train or tram link.
