    Sheahan's top 50

Brown spearheads top 50 list | Herald Sun

    5 Swans
    10. Goodes
    28. Hall
    33. Kennelly
    37. C.Bolton
    40. ROK

    Last year
    2. Hall
    6. Goodes
    17. ROK
    20. Kirk
    37. C.Bolton

Obviously Kirk had a terrible 2007 and Kennelly had a brilliant one.

          HOW IT WORKS

My pre-season top 50 comprises those I expect to have the greatest impact in the coming season. Selections are based on exposed form, coupled with anticipated improvement. The list excludes players under a cloud because of injury.

Maybe he just forgot about him.
"It's up to the rest of the players in the room to make a new batch of premiership players next year," Adam Goodes, triple Bob Skilton Medallist, October 7, 2011.

              Obviously he does.

Kirk was definitely in the top 50 throughout last year and he's not showing any signs of being finished.

Hall wasn't in the top 50 last year and neither was Kennelly.

What a ridiculous exercise. Predicting the top 50 for the next season, it's pure guesswork - and just gives him an excuse for throwing names up that don't deserve to be rated that highly.

Kirk is a gun, and he's horribly underrated by many.

It has absolutely nothing to do with that. I said Hall and Kennelly shouldn't be in there. Those two out, Kirk in. That makes one less swan than he already has.

I love your objectiveness Dr, but I think sometimes you go too far the other way.

Fair enough. I agree that we're not hardly done by.

I just think it's a stupid way to do it. It's like picking a brownlow winner at this stage of the year, or the Norm Smith winner during GF week.

I think Hall should definately be in the top 50 if it's based on what's expected this year.

From 2004-06 he was rated by many, including Sheehan, as the most important player in the game to his team, if u know what I mean. They waxed lyrical about him On the Couch and on WLF nightly.

If you forgive his poor 2007 due to injuries, which is reasonable, you'd expect he would surely be in the top 50.

As for Goodes, if there are 9 better players than him in the game at the minute then I'm Brad Pitt. Even the Wobble supporters were shaking their heads in amazement with his single handed performances against them at the end of the year. We'd have copped 2 x 12 goal floggings by the Wobbles if he wasn't out there.

I don't think there is a question mark over Goodes consistency, yes, he was dreadful for the first half of 07, he himself has admitted to that, but apart from those 10 or so games, I think his past 5 seasons have been very consistent.

                        You're not Brad Pitt.....

                        I am.

Goodes is Top 5. How a current player, that's a dual Brownlow medallist, and was on fire at the end of the previous season, can still be outside the top 3, let alone the top 5, is beyond me.

                          Phenomenal in '03 and '06.

Stuggled in '04, but mainly because of his knees, so there were excuses.

                          Patchy in '05.

And we all know what happened last year.
