    Last night's loss in perspective

St Kilda did not play finals last season and therefore have had a longer pre-season than us.

But surely that doesn't mean every team who finished in the bottom 8 will beat the teams that played finals last year.

No. But of all the teams in the finals last year that are beaten in round 1, only one was coached by Paul Roos.

If losing last night was in return for winning the 2005 Preliminary Final - I'm fine with that. Would have been nice to have won last night but don't think there is one St Kilda fan out there who wouldn't trade last night's win for winning the PF in 2005.

it's round 1. Let me know when you want me in the bomb shelter.

          Sheesh.

Last nights loss in perspective - we lost by 2 points to a side everyone is tipping to finish top 2 and most were expecting us to be pumped by.

I thought we'd get flogged by the Saints, so a 2 point loss was a win in my books.
Considering how much the saints flooded in the 1st q.

I love the way the dhead guy behhind us (who gave a running commentary of the St Kilda game ALL night), started complaining when sydney were chipping the ball around, looking for options. But could'nt see that every Saints player was in, or very close to being in, there D50. What a knob.

As you can see from my other thread I was annoyed (to say the least) at the ultra defensive ethos of Lyon and the teams he is associated with.

              Positives out of the game.

McVeigh played a very good game.
              Moore looked good.
              Jack was very good.
Bird had a couple of classy touches, all you can expect from a first gamer. (Then to get pinged for HTB when neither player actually laid a tackle on him seemed to sap him of some confidence).

Overall, neither side looked likely to play finals football on that showing, but it is week 1, and as we won't have to play against the biggest flood since Noah was a boat builder every week, we will see some more positive results.

Yes but that was 3 seasons ago. Time to move on.

We are always slow starting I thought 7 - 8 goals. St Kilda's season will be over rnd 12

IS there anywhere you can find out which of our players is injured, when they will be back?

Why? I can't see Mathews or Crouch fitting into the team last night.

I am sure Paul Bevan is thinking the same

That would be a HUGE step backwards. With Barlow, Schmidt, Vez, O'Dwyer etc still to be given their chance (Vez maybe next year), and the Eski and Thornton to come back in 2009, we should never see Mathews and Crouch again.

Am I the only loser wishing we could've seen Thornton this year? He looked like a gun!

Don't get me started on Bevan!!!!!! The number of times he left teammates having to defend against their own player and his I wouldn't be able to count on both hands. He cost us at least two goals whilst he was wandering around metres from his opponent looking for cheap stats.

Plus they already got their own back in 2006 when they beat us by 2-3 points in the SCG.

We made the GF that year, too. Sorry, I don't think a 2 point win, in the year we almost went back to back, is the same as us denying them a GF birth!
