    The Fevola Theorum.

Sates that dumb players are forwards, smart players are backs.

Seing Bevo take that nice grab and kick a goal got me thinking. I have never doubted Bevo's determination and work ethic, my beef with him has always been that he has semed incapable of making the correct decision or executing correctly when the ball is in his hands. Playing forward, his problems are cured - take posession, kick for goal, no reason to think!!

Another example is to give Benny Mathews the ball (a) at half back or (b) 45 metres out. In case (a) Benny will short pass / kick sideways (neither of which helps the team) or turn it over. In case (b) Benny dobs a sausage. I've been on Ben's case for a long time but he is a very good shot on goal.

Mathews is just about finished but Bevo has a lot of footy in fromt of him. Will playing forward be the best way forwrd for him?

I call this the Fevola theorum.

It's a possibility and adds some hardness and tackling in the forward line. In Bevan's first year I made some comments about his good sense of awareness around goals, but saw little of it again later. Perhaps another casualty of trying to turn everyone into a tagger?
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

I was thinking the same thing. I also thought Dempster should have been given a stint forward last year for the same reason, and was predicting it this year, but then he got traded.

But there is no denying that there ARE roles for players with poor decision making and/or disposal skills in the forward line. Bevan COULD become a sort of defensive forward, in there to put defensive pressure on the opposition defenders, and take a pot shot at goal whenever the opportunity arises. That was the role he was playing today, and he did it well. The problem is, was this because of this change in role, or was it just a flukey good game? I guess time will tell, but he's convinced me that he has earnt his spot, for next week at least.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!
