    Goodes and leadership

Following Hall's brain snap I thought Goodes showed tremendous leadership, but only for about 5 mins. Why can't he impose himself on the game more often? He is verging on greatness, but will he ever take the next step and be not only an enigmatic and wonderful player, but a true leader on the field?

    Agree.
Now that Blind Barry's off the field - I think we'll see Goodesy step up a notch. He can be a bit of a goal sneak when he wants to.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Agreed, but that 5 minute burst you were talking about in the second quarter was awesome! His acceleration as he burst from the pack was Judd-like, it really looked as if he was going to take charge of the game on his own.

Enjoyred the piece of play when Goodes roved Cox's tap, to Cox's disbelief . Poor finish though

goodes has set high standards so i could be being unfair. But is he up to 20 minutes of decent football for the season yet? He gets some nice easy kicks but he is frustrating the hell out of me this year
Theres not much left to say

Goodes is obviously a very talented player.I watched him closely last night and he doesn't seem to like to pass the ball to players in better positions. On one occassion he did pass to O'Loughlin for a goal.He is a great player and I love to watch him but he can be selfish at time.

A GREAT player would've got that goal, after the sensational ruck snag.

Does that make him only a good player?

Goodes is enigmatic because he tries to do too much. He often holds the ball looking for the perfect handball or the perfect footpass rather than distributing and having faith is his teammates.

Equally too often he seeks to bump players rather than tackle because he is looking for the big play rather than the simple thing which is team oriented.

The truth is that goodes is a brillant at times (I have never seen a better quarter - with the possible exception of paul kelly v carlton Princes Park 1996 (5 ?) - than against adelaide in 2006) but can be in credibly frustrating by swanning around without imposing himself on a match because he simply won't or can't play a key position or even really on the ball

But for all of that he is our goodes

one thing with goodes is he sure can be frustrating but Im glad he is on our side and not against us. He isnt far away from hitting top gear I dont think and when he does look out. If he does it before about rd 10 a third brownlow is not out of the question.

I am surprised at this statement. How many BOG's did he get in the last 8 weeks of last year. If he has a quiet first half of the year and then pulls 20 brownlow votes we will make the top 4. He has the medals. I agree with other statements that with Hall out combined with a good run with Cox alst week we will see him step up a notch this year.
