    collingwood/sydney magpies???

hello all, this is my first post on the new site, the first post has been drawn out as i havent really had any inspiration to post yet, and ive been away for a good part of last month... however theres something finally to post about, eddie mcguire... WHAT A TOOL! he claims that he wants to come to sydney but not poach sydney swans supporters... i dont care if he thinks he doesnt want any of our current supporters but the fact is he is trying to take away potential supporters, this guy has got in for the swans, was his grandmother a swans supporter or something???

here is the article i'm referring to:

    article

why cant other clubs settle for being where they are and not always think that the swans are too small to fill the town of sydney...

"We play the most exciting football, draw the biggest crowds and we think people in Sydney are ready for us."

"If you've got a stadium like Telstra Stadium you need the biggest drawcard to fill it and that is Collingwood," McGuire said.

the rivalry between us and collingwood is accelerating rapidly, the only way that the pies will be a drawcard for sydneysiders is their hate for eddie mcguire and his darling players...
    C'mon Chels!

I had the article posted on the General forum but I think this is the right area to promote discussion . I have to agree with everything that Penga says. McGuire has a super ego which knows no limits as well as a hatred for the Swans which is developimg to dangerous levels. I do not know what has happened in his past but whatever, he has become obsessive about the Swans.
I think that the comment from Richard Colless is right on the money even though a little understated.

It could be benefit the growth of the game and take some pressure of the swans in fiscal terms.

But still I think it's an elaborate plan to destabilise the swans. He really doesn't like us..and it's proven on the footy show as he never mentions the swans in a positive manner and he usually leaves us for the end with the comment "quick tip guys" and the bang straight into a plug for Collingwood.

Good luck to him..but he will find it kinda hard..the only advantage is that the old West supporters might follow Collingwood b/c of the emblem being a magpie.

I'm loving this syd v coll rivarly, its getting better and better, and this latest comment from Mcquire surely will increase the rivalrly 10 fold, just look at the swans reaction to north when they tried to come in on our turf.
Cant wait for the coll v syd game at telstra dome in melbourne this year.

I hate Collingwood. I hate Malthouse. I hate Buckley.

But I hate McGuire more than anyone else put together. What the hell is his problem with the Swans? It seems he is even willing to take Collingwood out of Melbourne for a home match just to hurt us!!!! He needs to get his priorities straight.

Everytime Nick Davis touches the ball I want to hear a HUGE cheer.
It's very hard to live in a studio apartment in San Jose with a man who's learning to play violin. That's what she told the police when she handed them the empty revolver.

They are just looking to cash in on the Swans hard work and on the distant memory of west's rugby magpies. Together with their game at Telstra Stadium they will try to milk as much money as possible. To them i say, nice try but no banana! Swans have entrenched themselves in the west with their commitment to playing quality games against top opponents. Another club to bite the dust!

Sounds like an echo of comments the Roos made when they first came to Sydney - this idea of playing a great brand of footy that was so superior to anything that the Swans were capable of; that somehow they would attract non-AFL fans to the game (people the Swans had failed to interest) because of some inbuilt superiority,...

One thing that amuses me about this forum is that posters disagree on so much (good thing, in the main) but our scorn of the Pies is almost universal!

                          Quotes from Eddie:

McGuire is adamant that the Magpies are "not there to steal Swans supporters".
Probably a trick. Don't trust him.

"Collingwood really sees itself as being the only club with Australia-wide appeal in the AFL and the biggest team in the AFL.
Australia-wide appeal, really? I think fans of Sydney, Essendon and Carlton in particular will have something to say about that!
I think their "appeal" is just that everyone hates them!

we play the most exciting football
Surely even Eddie has to admit that teams other than Collingwood can play exciting football!

Anyway, I'm relieved that Richard Colless is well aware of this "inflated view of Collingwood's significance".

Speaking of Eddie, did anyone see the new Millionaire ad where he gets overexcited about giving away the million dollars? The ad closed with: "Help Eddie realise his dream".

If it involves Collingwood winning a premiership, no thanks.

i like to find out how he can substanciate (i can't spell) that quote as i've always got the impression that outside victoria, victorian teams were not liked much at all. as for australia wide appeal, i would put my vote for brisbane as people seem to like to support winning teams.

( the brisbane view is a general view not a personal view, i support swans all the way)

A major sporting poll a few years back named the Swans the most popular club in the AFL. What was Eddie response??? He dismiss the poll as crap saying the AC Nelson doesn't know a thing, funny seeing as Eddie quoted them all the time and the boss of AC Nelson is a Magpie supporter.
                              Once was, now elsewhere
