what happened to matthews and crouch?

can anyone tell me what has happened to ben matthews and jared crouch?

are they out of favour with rooss and co for any particular reason?

matthews wasnt playing any exceptionally bad footy last yr although crouch had injuries but was ready to go in 2008 wasnt he?

Crouch is, presumably, injured since he didn't play any pre-season games and has yet to front up for the reserves.

You're right that Mathews played some reasonably good defensive football last year, but while it wasn't bad, it wasn't brilliant either. I suspect he'll be called on at some point as the season progresses, but at the moment the form of Jack, Barlow and co is keeping him out of the team. And with Schmidt, Laidlaw, Everitt and Davis - and maybe Malceski - to be putting their hands up for senior spots some time in the not too distant future, he's got some decent competition for a spot in the seniors.

Which has to be a good thing.

Let's just say that Matthews has a small fan club on RWO.

Probably not, but Jack now plays that run-with role that Mathews used to play, and has also been effective when counter-attacking. Should Jack make way for Mathews?

Btw, it has been mentioned before and many of the users at RWO have rejoiced

Firstly I wouldn't call Matthews a major player anymore. But as shaun has pointed out, Jack plays his role far better and can counter attack, something that Matthews can not do. Im sure he will pop his head up at some stage when we get an injury or two or the stress of playing top level footy means some of the younger blokes perhaps need a break, but I for one do hope we dont see anymore then what is absolutely necessary of him this year. Not that he isnt a hard worker or was once a very good player, I just dont think he is effective enough anymore and doesnt add enough to the team to be warranted for selection.

Crouch well who knows, don't think he is up to it anymore anyway, but is seemingly having major problems coming back from whatever injury he has.

Should have known it was Barry Hall's fault.

I'm not a big Mathews fan but I hope he gets to play two games this year so he reaches his 200. Then both he and Crouch retire with the respect and dignity they deserve as great servants of our club.

2 and out for benny i reckon. Been a great servant for the club (As has Crouch) but it is definitely time for them to retire.
