    Bruce is back

For those Swan fans who appreciate Bruce McAvaney as a footy broadcaster, (in particular, his broadcast of Plugger's 1300 goal record breaking game in 1999), this weekend's game against North Melbourne represents his first Sydney Swans game that he has commentated for 7 years.

The reason for the long break:
    a. Network Seven did not broadcast AFL from 2002 to 2006
    b. McAvaney only broadcasts games in Victoria
    c. This is the first Sunday afternoon game that Sydney has played in Victoria since 2004

I'll be at the game. I was going to tape it, but I probably won't now knowing that.

I'm thrilled. Robbie Ahmat's end to end goal at the SCG and his commentary of Plugger's pushing S. Grant out of the way in the 1996 GF to goal are two of my fave Bruce Swans moments.

          It's our first C7 game since 2001.

The Victorian game thing isn't true btw, he commentates both C7 games a weekend no matter where they are, but seeing the Swans never play Friday nights and rarely play at 2pm, we very rarely are a C7 game. Our only other C7 game this year is on May 18 against Essendon.

And I was happier without having to put up with Bruce and the morons Ox and Watson but it's good to see a Swans game televised in Perth that doesn't involve the Eagles or Dockers.

However, it's on Channel 7 so it's probably not live here and hopefully ABC local radio will broadcast the game.
I only support one team: The SYDNEY SWANS!!!!! :adore

Which of the Swans players do you reckon he'll make the most suggestive gay innuendos about? Anybody want to take bets? How about Kennelly and O'Keefe with shortest odds at $2 ("he's a real tiger/rhino in bed", "I'd suck his pebbles any day", etc, etc)?
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

O'Loughlin's "silky" skills will get a mention.

                      ... as will something "speshelllllll".
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

I just wonder how many players he'll call "clever".

Damien, I think you might be right, because he actually lives in Adelaide. It will certainly be the Swans' first 2pm Sunday game since at least 2001.

                              I loved Bruce,

I grew up with him and Sandy Roberts doing sport in Adelaide in the late 70's and early 80's prior to them both going to Melbourne.

It's very clear though the best have do have a used by date.

When you get good new blood into the box it just makes the dead wood look more rotten than ever (cue Luke Darcy last Sat. arvo who stood out like a 9 inch member amongst a set of 80 year old hairy testicles).

Bruce's time has come and gone.
