I was watching McLaren and he missed some basic frees for the Swans but he also missed some for North. He had an average game. I have a freind that has kept an eye on his career (near neighbour) and advises that McLaren wants to be part of the game instead of the role of discreet and efficient umpire - I better not say anymore.

What riled me today was the 50metre penalties - Ok let's accept our 3 penalties were deserved (hard to accept the first but anyway) - but how about the North guy that pivoted around Goodes with his arm around him - no penalty. Would have been a certain score instead of us losing posession from where he took the kick.

Well in our local Under 16's game today the frees were 28 to 8, with 5 of the 28 resulting in goals. It was a debarcle and very dangerous.

I understand umpiring is tough as my son has just started umpiring but something needs to be done about the inconsistancy.

When Goldsphincter retired, McLaren was elevated to No.1 most hated umpire. We more than probably helped him get there. He doesn't like us one little bit.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Was simply awful, how pathetic was that passage involving Kieren Jack who tackled Harvey beautifully for no reward but to only get pinged himself.

I must admit, that McLaren was in his usual form, but having just watched the last 10 minutes again it is evident that the umpires did the right thing and put the whistle away. It's amazing how much better the footy is when that happens. It's a pity the Fat Controller can't see that.
