    On the upside....

We did pretty well beat the Kangaroos. Had it not been for some very ordinary kicking, and maybe even a dubious call in the last minute by the goal umpire, we probably would of won.

Our defence was at it's usual stingy best. Goodes looked like he has finally found himself again, Kennelly came good and for the most part, we were the better team.

Considering that everyone had the Kangaroos as a potential top four and us as a write off four weeks ago, was it such a bad result?

    I think not.

True. But all of this "it wasn't such a bad result" or "we could have done worse" doesn't get you in to the top 4. Top 4 sides win games ugly, pretty, hard, tough, wet, dry, whatever. Not all games, but all winnable games. The Hawks yesterday could have easily dropped that game against the Tiges but despite shocking kicking, they still managed to win...
    Go you mighty BLOODBOYS!

Sydney were crap for most of 2.5 quarters yesterday. Couldnt win the ball out of centre, lost too many of the one on one contests, too many stupid errors, too many turnovers, woefully inaccurate kicking for goal, no forwards leading for the ball and if they did the disposal to them was often so poor it went straight to a North player. All up there was little to enjoy in yesterdays very ordinary performance.

I thought we were better than the opposition. Isn't that all we need to be?

Agreed. Thought Moore was great in the general play and the tough packs as well. Found a way out of the packs, blocked the big blokes and showed skill under pressure.

Sure we were better than them at stages, but when are the Swans going to put four quarters together on a consistent basis? That is what makes a top 4 team IMO.

                  Yes and no...

I thought generally we were better than them for MOST of the game... We haled them out, defended well, but executed poorly.

However I would agree, Top 4 sides win 4 quarters...

I agree with your point RP,but IMO a Top 4 side doesnt necessarily have to win all 4 qtr's.

As long as they keep in striking distance by the 3rd/4th qtr then any thing can happen.

One thing and one thing only cost us the match yesterday and that was poor kicking for goal plain and simple.

We were clearly the better side in my view but if you don't take your chances early in the match, it generally comes back to bite you on the arse.

I think lack of scoring opportunities cost us more. Franklin kicked 1.7 for Hawthorn yesterday and they still win. They had 57 x I50s and 34 scoring shots. We had 43 x I50s and 18 scoring shots.

I think that's one of our major problems. However, if we'd kicked straight yesterday we would have won the game.

Yep, wasted opportunities when the ball gets into the forward 50 will cost us games if changes to the game plan aren't made.

Yep, but not much in it - excluding rushed behinds we had 18 scoring shots to their 16.
