Uh, what's the other criterion? Surely the two criteria are "racially based" and "abuse". That was both. It was pissweak, but it was still technically racial abuse.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

He has to fire back with stuff. That is the way things are done in this country. Or better still, tell his teammates so they start an all-in in solidarity with their new team-mate.

By going to the media opponents are only going to do it twice as much, thinking he is a sook.

The last time I looked Irish were Caucasians like us. If an Aussie was copping @@@@ playing in Ireland I'm sure he'd give back as good as he got, possibly with a fist!

And we wonder why they stopped the International Rules tournament when you see how butter soft the little leprechauns can be.

He didn't go to the media.

He would have been asked a question 'have u been sledged/how have they taken to you' etc. etc. for an article to appear in his native land.

Can't believe anybody would think this is the result of him 'running to the media' complaining about being called an Irish git or some such.

        Get real.

Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way you'll be a mile away and he'll be shoeless.

I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Players in the Canberra comp are in no position to criticise anybody. They are useless footballers.

I had been thinking the exact same thing. It's the old thing of the press ask a question, he answers, some Bozo's think he is whinging to the press.

This is an English/Irish publication. No doubt the journo wanted a story on how things were going in Australia and I have no doubt he asked him how he has been received.

He obviously made some reference to being sledged and there you have it in print.

Hardly a case of 'telling the media about it' as if he made a complaint or anything.
Totally agree BBB, definitely would have been words that were shoved in to his mouth...but ultimately they did come out of his mouth again...if he cops a tirade of this crap this week from the opposition boys he may have learned a lesson...better to keep your mouth shut on some matters.

e.g. Journo: "You copped any abuse out there because you are Irish?"
Murphy: "Nah, nothin that you wouldn't expect."

                      Leave it there. Done.
