SOUNDS like he was pretty bad today.

I have a Benny Bashing badge as well.

Can only see positives in his removal from that squad.

Makes you wonder about Roos and his ideal about placing senior players in 'the reserves'.
Seems a bit resistant to it, except for Davis.

Schmidty played in the ressies today but didn't do an awful lot. Looks like he needs a few weeks to get some fitness.

I thought Schmidt was pretty good in the first half. Very effective around the stoppages. But didn't have a particularly good second half.

It's quite hard to get a handle on form watching a reserves game due to the much lower standard, and the fact that half the team are 16 or 17 years old (and not the cream of that age range either). For example, the Swans had no listed ruckman today and a couple of skinny top-ups shared all the stoppage duties. They put up a good effort in the circumstances, but it makes it hard to assess Schmidt in terms of his clearance work, which is where we're looking for him to add real value.

Liz I take your points from your previous post however they must start taking a stance and not just use Davis as the whipping boy. While he is, the likes of those I named will continue their mediocrity because they know they are immune from being dropped. The coaches should rip into the likes of Bolton and Buchy and not put up with their poor efforts.

I am so frustrated at seeing us lose the same way time and again with the same culprits. When we get a few of the injured seniors back it will be very interesting to see who makes way for them. Then we will see what guts they have and what commitment there is to development and the future.

I've stood up for Benny heaps of times in this place, in the past he has served us well.

Today, however, was a shambles. Sorry pal, back to the magoos.

He knows how to win a centre clearance, generally looks to move the ball forward, and can hit up a target 50m away. Other than being relatively slow by foot, what does he have in common with Mathews?

So there aren't many options immediately available to Roos. We just have to hope that as the season wears on, more of them manage to stay fit and put real pressure on the senior blokes.
Why did Smith only play half the game?

                    Did he hurt himself?

No, they frequently take one of the emergencies off at half-time so they're relatively fresh in case one of the seniors gets injured during the warm-up.

He wears a red and white footy jumper?

FWIW Liz, I thought it was an odd question too. They are nothing alike on the football field. Nobody said Schmidt was the Messiah, only that he would be a better alternative than "Backwards" Benny.

KB on SEN1116 was commentating on just how bad Ben Mathews was, he said his disposals were poor and looked really out of sorts.

He is no longer in the leadership group - but he still has the odd GF credit left as far as Roos is concerned.

He was just woeful - even though he deserves to be dropped back to reserves FOR GOOD - Roos will keep him in seniors. I've had enough!

I would hate to think Roos played him due to having a GF credit (didn't seem to save Schnieder or Dempster from being traded) although I seriously wonder how he could get a spot on ability these days.

Truly dismal display yesterday and hopefully his last.
