Excellent - just in time for his retirement!

OK, I watched the game today, and seriously, get the @@@@ over yourselves. LRT was OK. He wasn't brilliant, but there weren't any major @@@@ups. Why is it that EVERYONE on this forum seems to look at the Swans in a negative light? He played on Minson when the big fella went forward, and had one goal kicked on him. He led the Swans for rebound 50s. He took a respectable 5 marks. Sure, he was by no means dominant, but he was a hell of a lot better than last week. He had a role, and he was moderately competent. A little disappointing, but hardly stuff to create a thread over.

            Good to hear this perspective.

I tried to watch the game last night but couldn't...mainly because the cleaner at work who taped it for me(he can afford Austar,I can't) is a Bulldogs supporter and he only recorded the last three quarters. By accident ,he says. So I still can't comment except for what I heard on the radio before going to hockey. So it is good to get a slightly different opinion.

Yes. Would you like to tell me exactly what you thought was wrong with his game? Granted, he wasn't fantastic, but there is more bitching about his game this week than last week, and his game against the Roos was a million times worse!

Well for starters in your previous post, you said "ok, I watched the game today" (as if to say that none of us did) - good on you so did we!!!

and thats exactly it - it wasn't fantastic - and he isnt getting any better as time passes. You can predict that he will hand pass to someone under pressure - or kick sideways (on those rare occassions that he does actually kick the ball) and then there is the turn over - he closes his eyes when he goes up for an easy mark - generally misses it - and is guilty of leaving his man unmarked on far too many occassions. Granted he isnt on his own in that department, but on the whole - his game really hasnt improved, yet he still gets a run why is that?

Just look at his play as a package - its not that flash, he should have improved by now when you consider all the time and effort gone into him..or are we supposed to accept that he is a player that is consistantly ordinary so therefore is beyond criticism?

He may well be consistently ordinary, but i don't think we are over-endowed with young talls ready to take his place. Most teams will play 3 tall forwards (or at least 2 and a ruckman). So who can we use as tall defenders? C.Bolton obviously; Richards has come on nicely this year, and then?
                  Grundy - isn't he really a forward?
                  White - see above
Faulks - all 74kg of him

When Hall is back I would consider using Playfair as a CHB - though I may well be alone in this. But until then I believe we just have to hope LRT gets his mojo back.

Would he get a game in the other top eight sides? How can someone with the footy skills of Davis be in the two's and LRT is picked every week, his evolution as an AFL player just is not happening.
If he stays in, someone will have to be in the clear streaming past to take is loopy handball so we can maintain possession.

Last week he was used to play as the "tall" defender - a role he has been developed to do over the year, and often with considerable success.

Prior to that, so far this year he has been the emergency tool for an undersized ruck, and a no-big-body forward.

                      Give him a break!

I've always liked LRT - a mixed bag this season but I think worth persisting with. He does know how to play, and as others have pointed out, he's tall. We can't dispense with him.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

If you'd noticed that I posted that on MONDAY, and read my previous post, you would have seen that I hadn't seen the game. Yeah, it wasn't fantastic. LRT isn't a fantastic player. He is a good player. He had a bad game. Wow, the first time a player has done that! Hell, he had two bad games in a row. Yep, drop him now. The fact is that LRT is still in our best 22. He played the first 5 rounds in a completely unfamiliar position. He was our worst in Round 6, he was about two thirds of the way down in Round 7. I rated Mattner, Craig Bolton, Bird, Everitt and Matthews lower than LRT against the Dogs. Let's drop them!

Of course he isn't beyond criticism. That doesn't mean he should be dropped! He is in our best 22. He isn't a star, he is bang on average. He isn't developing at the moment, but where he is at right now is in our best 22.

My apologies for the oversight. Well seeing as you weren't at the ground - and didnt see the full picture how can you get on your high horse and have a go at the people who saw it in real time and in the full frame??? - you only saw it on your TV screen. He left his man unmarked on too many occassions which twice resulted in a goal to the dogs, he dropped the easiest of marks which again resulted in a turnover, he cant ruck for love or money, his hand passes often fell short or he used the "hot potato" technique in hand passes to someone under pressure, need I go on??? he has had what, 5 years to develope? and he has not improved in that time. If he plays a good game I and many others will give him praise he deserves (and we all admit he played well in the Grand Final in 05), but if he doesnt - which is more often than not then why shouldnt he cop it? So get back in your box.
