Apparently the Melbourne Swans Cheer Squad members have been given tickets to go & cheer for the All Stars this week. Apart from having my name taken down I know nothing about it all.
Anyone in the Cheer Squad know any more?

Sounds like the AFL are desperate for a crowd.Occupational hazards:
I don't eat animals since discovering this ability. I used to. But one day the lamb I was eating came through to me and ever since then I haven't been able to eat meat.Comment

Pleased to see a 2-1 ratio of footy lovers to the meh crowd.Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Tadhg Kennelly will play, so will Jonathon Brown, but Gary Ablett is out with a calf injury. Will be interesting to see if he plays in Round 8.Comment

I love the International Rules games but deplore the State of Origin games.
I must be the only person in the world who went to the SOO game where Ted Whitten was dragged out and paraded around who thought it was a disgrace. I only went because we were in Melbourne and couldn't believe there wasn't a proper game on. I was horrified and couldn't bear to watch.
I know every man and his dog goes on about how great it would have been to see and people say they wish they were there but I can't help how I felt. To me it was undignified and I cringed.I couldn't believe they would get someone who was dying and parade them around in front of all those people. I have never recovered from it and abhor SOO because of it.
Plugger played really well that day as did Mark Bayes and I can remember being impressed with the quick hands of the Geelong players for Victoria.Paul Roos didn't play. Ben Hart and Nigel Smart were swamped in the SA backline and it was very onesided."The Dog days are over, The Dog days are gone" Florence and the MachineComment

AFL must be the only professional sport with no representative competition.
A lot of fans want Origin, though there's no sign of the commission ever asking them (what's new).
Even the players want it:
'We want State of Origin': elite players | Herald Sun
What we have instead is an exhibition match to glorify 150 years of football in Victoria.
It'll be good to watch the best run around on Sat night, but the game is meaningless. Just another marketing exercise. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment

State-of-Origin matches are one area where rugby league has a clearly superior product to AFL. It's because league has two clearly branded rivals with strong identities in NSW & QLD - there is no parallel to this in AFL. And AFL has much stronger club rivalries than rugby league, which is why an entire round is devoted to it.Last edited by Cheer Squad; 9 May 2008, 08:17 AM.Comment
