The MCC has a duty of care to its patrons. A court will decide if that duty has been breached. The only way to find out is to sue. I hope she does not succeed, as those nets are a pain in the arse. She's a good chance though simply because of the deep pockets of the MCC and the fact that she appears to be the poor widow of a veteran. Expect the MCC to settle this out of court.

Geez... it's part and parcel of being a footy supporter behind the goals that if you sit there during a warm up you're probably going to get sconed eventually! The regulars learn very quickly that if you don't like it, that 5 minutes of warm up is a really convenient time for a "nervous wee" or to go buy your food before the game starts! And didn't they bring in the nets and the warning that "footballs may come over the fence during warm up" a few years ago anyway? Doesn't that constitute duty of care? Or would there be more to it in this case?

Hasn't there already been a case where someone was concussed(?) during a warm up. I think it was Geelong, and Harley(?) had to apologise to the spectator, or something along those lines. Maybe it didn't go to court.

You'd assume most players would apologise if they realised they'd hit someone, or am I thinking too much of them these days? I remember copping one off Schwatta's boot back in about 1999 and he came straight up to see if I was ok and apologised to me. It was a total accident (well I assume so anyway ) and my glasses were a right mess, but it's the risk you take!

This bloke got sconed a beauty last night. Sent his beer flying & everything.

Seriously what is the point of having nets at the MCG when they are still not big enough to catch all the footies that players are sending goalward?

Still, does the SCG still have no nets at all pre-game because it takes too much effort & skill to take them down in time before the match starts?
