I wasn't anticipating they'd hold off more than one week, assuming he came through that one week OK. Even back in 2005 he was way way too good for the reserves. I saw him dominate a game in that year in a way I don't think I have ever seen another player ever dominate a game. Even allowing for the much lower standard, it was poetry in motion.
The main reason I see for giving him one game in the reserves is so that they can play him for the amount of game time they think is right for him with no match fitness base, rather than worry about the effect on rotations and the time other players have to spend on the game. If we get an injury or two during the senior game it could be telling if they are determined to limit how much time he plays. But it is normally just the first week back that they seem intent on playing players for just half a game or so. I'd imagine his base fitness is pretty good given that he's been running since a few weeks after the operation.
Wherever he plays, all fingers and toes are going to be crossed and crossed again.Comment

He's in the 22. Cheese makes way, thought it would have been Bird.

As I understand he is having a run in the morning to see if he comes up.
If they didn't name him someone would have to come out with a bona fide injury. This way if they decide to play it safe or are playing shiftys they just drop him because he failed a fitness test.
All makes perfect sense to me.Comment
