I dont agree with the premise, and we'll probably get done this week.

You don't agree that in order for us to have a serious tilt at the flag in 2008 that we need to beat the teams that are 10th, 12th, 15th, 9th & 16th???

I would of thought that a fairly obvious statement.

Port wont finish 10th (and will probably finsih higher than 10th) and are a tough side at home. I do not think that all loss this coming week end would be a disaster. That said, to lose any of those others would be disappointing and would leave us in dnager of not being able to catch the top 4.

As far as Sydney is concerned, you can never be confident. Judging from the ladder I agree that those games should be won, but I'm not confident that it'll happen.

I can only agree with the above. Port are a far better side than their position on the table indicates and may even start favourites this week.

Where's the "We always play well at AAMI" brigade?

I'll say it again. If we ARE to be contenders this year, we need to win the games like this week Vs Port.

I am a member of the "We played a good game at AAMI once" brigade.

I almost agree with you RP. I would say that if we ARE to be contenders we need to win most of our games like this week.

Port aren't a bad side, but we need to be better than them if we're to have any hope at all. It's these away games against borderline opposition like Port that make all the difference.

We've let two slip through our fingers already this year.

Port = they're scared of us. It's a pity we have to play them so "early" again, but I think, even if the swans played only a little better or a little worse than they did yesterday, we'll beat them. Playfair, Moore and Mattner are having a ball and seem to have found their feet. If they play like they did yesterday, we'll beat them. Who knows, maybe even Micky can pull a bag of goals two weeks in a row.

Tiggers/Budgie Criminals & Melbourne are, if they plan correctly, percentage boosters.

The Ainters will be close. It can go either way.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

If we do win those 5 then it will equal our best run under Roos of 6 in a row.

However, despite us performing better later in the season, we've not won more than 4 in a row after rd 9. I'm not confident we'll change that - we have the ability to drop one of those we should win. A 3-2 or 4-1 split wouldn't surprise me.

Even 4-1 will leave us close to top 4.

A 3-2 will put us right in the finals battle mix.

Top 4 is interesting as it's pretty rare for three standout teams this far into the season.

                          Our true tests will come in rd 14, 15, 17, 18, 20, 21.

The flag, or even finals positions are not determined this early in the year.

                            There will be twists ahead.

I dont agree that a loss next week would mean we are a non event. Port aren't a bad side, despite their early form. On their day, they could beat anyone, and probably should have beaten the Hawks at their 'fortress'.
