Staker's 'lineball' kick....

Now that we have won and we've all had a day to get over it, would the posters in the 'game thread' who almost sent the swear filter into meltdown like to re-assess the Staker goal.

I was as pissed as anybody when it happened, but I didn't think for a nano-second that the ball had completely crossed the line. The replay of the shot from across the goal-line only confirms it.

It was close and Staker was foolish to try and kick the ball in the style he did, but it was a goal, pure and simple.

I didn't post on the game day thread but the replays I saw showed the ball over the line...... Even the commentators I had (Fox coverage I think) were saying it was over the line....

I think it was over. The side view shows that Staker was on the line when he kicked it, and unless he can drop the ball directly down while he's running at that speed, then it would have travelled forward.

That was my take on it too. It's why footballers prop in those situations to avoid kicking the ball over the line.

What footage did you see? It looked over the line to me.

we can argue all we like and the eagles can argue the free on Bolts was weak but it evened things out....the ball was over and yes the commentaters thought so once the footage was replayed.

Wasn't he standing still (ie. not running at pace but standing at the back of the pack to crumb) and just slammed it through??

I wouldn't necessarily say that but all of their senior and junior football links are with Adelaide. I used to play against Wests (Stakers club) up there a bit when I was a junior. One year we played on an oval that was completely dust and sand!!!! Tough way to learn the game.

Back OT though I don't know how any one can say that the the *whole* ball was wholly over the back edge of the line prior to it hitting his boot. I have a feeling that the goal umps may well have been instructed that the whole ball has to be behind the back edge of the post padding given recent on the line controversies as well.

The way I saw it at the time was that he had literally stopped ... then kicked the ball through. He looked to have been right on the line.
I thought it was a goal at the time and I was spewing!!
