One percenters

I don't know if this has been mentioned after Saturday nights win, but there were a couple of "one percenter" plays (or possibly keep the ball alive at all costs) in the last qrtr that assisted greatly in the win.

Play 1. Kirk is tackled and about to be taken to ground, Luke Ablett rips the ball out of Kirrks hands, kicks it long, results in a goal.

Play 2. Goodes can't grab the ball that is heading boundary wise so punches it back into the path of the Eski who goals.

It was fantastic stuff, and it is this sort of thing that wins matches.

FWIW I reckon this was almost the best win we have had in Roosy's reign as coach.

I watched the second half again last night and NOG's desperation throughout was great. Sure he missed a goal but so did Amon and Eski but he was everywhere trying to get the ball and just move it forward.

Play 3. Spida did exactly the same thing as Goodes to set up a goal to McVeigh in the second? quarter.

Loved seeing it. Brains switched on after a poor start.

WCE came out to play in the first half and Sydney did not. The combination was nearly terminal.

When we stepped up, WCE were belted. If those team 1%ers were there in the first half, it would have been shut up shop by half time.

Some fantastic stuff mentioned above, but I really loved the space that Spida and Goodesy created for themselves to take telling marks. Some of those defensive marks were game saving.

Yes - and the best bit was, he didn't panic and rush a behind. It was very late in the fourth quarter.

Very impressive. I hope we get him at the trivia night again, so this year, instead of only being impressed by his shoes, I can tell him in person how much he has improved.

Nah, she does follow the team, could name most of the 22 (maybe not the new kids), and is usually happy when the footy is on Saturday night as it is something to look forward to, just places LOST higher.

McVeighs handball to Kirk for his late goal in the third quarter was sublime.

This is the play that B2 and Glass clash heads and McVeigh gets the ball and pinpoints a handball to Kirk who goals from a metre out. That handball needed to be quick and precise or Kirk would have been monstered and not had a chance of getting ball to foot.

This has probably been our biggest area of improvement, although there is room for more... such as shepherding which we don't do often enough.

In regards to the rushed behind, we rarely do unless the pressure forces it upon us.

I have noticed for many years under Roos, even when under pressure on the last line, we often get it out. I would love to see stats on this, but I would be willing to bet that we are forced to rush behinds less than anyone else in the competition.

I don't include a touched ball, moreso most teams when under pressure will walk it through. We rarely do this.
