Help me - my brand is being diluted!

Although some droll comment is to be found here, I think the journo misses the point somewhat, which is surely Western Sydney.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

The Swans name doesn't originate in thirties. It emerged after the blodbath grand final as part of a lunatic notion that the clubs "image" had to be cleaned up. And half a century of defats and humilation followed. Worst marketing decision in football.

Pretty sure thats wrong. The name 'Swans' was picked up in the 30s when South had a lot of Western Australians in the team and thus picked up the name 'Swans'.

No its a myth carried on by lazy journo's. The thirties side did have some WA players but there is no way the proud club would have named itself after some blow in interstaters. In addition our greatest player ( and the greatest all round sportsman to ever play for the club) from that era was a Tasmanian. The WA connection story is wrong. We were called the Bloods after WWII until the early fifties. Some early prototype marketing clown decided the Swans on Albert Park Lake would be a better image and disaster struck.

Even though we had a lot of WA players, the name Swans would have most likely came from the amount of Swans that live in the lake near the old Lakeside Oval.

That's wrong. My dad has followed the Swans since the 1930s and they were called the Swans when he started to support them.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

I only read the first 3 paragraphs, but I suspect that the memo regarding the Swans brand comes partly as a result of that strange email survey that people suspected was fraudulent?

                  In our own RWO Wiki

                  The Golden Era (1932-1936)

When then club president Jack Rohan recruited grocery magnate Archie Crofts as the clubs new vice president, South gained the backing for the club's greatest recruiting drive of its history.

Jack Rohan and Archie Crofts set out to rebuild the club's playing stocks. With their hands tied locally, they turned their eyes to the rich talent that was available in Western Australia. Playing a good level of footy and a regular job with Crofts Stores were used to lure players over to Melbourne.

This is apparently how South got the nickname of the Swans, as with so many Western Australian's in the side, a member of the press once branded us 'The Swans', and the name stuck. Their base at the Lake Oval is also believed to have played a part in the nickname of the Swans sticking.

The writer has showed us how we are actually more recognisable than the powers that be think we are. We must have a new marketing person who is doing what they did first when they got their last job..

I'll show you my dad's recollection and raise you. My Dad told us that we were called the Bloods until after the bloodbath. The issue is when the club was officially called the swans as distinct from when they were perjoratively called the swans. The swan has to be the most insipid brand logo in footy since the Mayblooms. Not a big issue admittedly but accuracy gentlemen please.

As noted in the article, they were called a number of things, including the Bloods, Blood Stained Angels and the Swans!

The issue is when the brand originated from, which was the 1930s and the supporters did not use the term pejoratively.

There may be something in that. Our mob was definitely in the Bloods faction.
