rate our list

was having a chat with a friend who supports essendon, reckons they resigned an a grade midfielder in watson. No way is he a grade. Anyway how many a graders would we have on our list?

Id say at best we have 4

Goodes, R.Okeefe, C.Bolton and Kirk. Im not definite on the last 2 either as kirks skills are pretty ordinary and im not too sure where to rate bolton, but he does lead one of the best defences in the league.

Who else would others say are our a graders.

Id say we have a hell of lot of b grade to b+ players

B+ hall, malceski. Jolly, Kennelly,

B: oloughlin, j.bolton, mattner, mcveigh, buchanan?


and some id put in c grade could maybe he said to be b or will develop into a/b players (the young guys like bird moore and jack)



C+ Richards, barry, davis? if he plays?



C: eveirtt, fosdike, bird, jack, ablett??, Roberts Thompson, moore,
C- Schmidt, Barlow, crouch, brennan, bevan

any thoughts?

i think malceski would be a grade right now if not for his injury.

What a hard marker you are swansrule. I more or less agree with Plugger, except that I would:

include C Bolton and MOL with the As.
drop ROK to A- (due to his poor accuracy in front of goal)
include Bevan with the C+s (he deserves credit for his improved performance this season)
drop Davis to the D's (how could you rate him any higher?)
include Playfair with the Cs

Actually, I would place Jolly in the B+'s. He has had some mighty fine games.
There are few better in the AFL atm. Who would there be? Cox? Maybe Campbell and Taylor (more a ruck combination than two ruck men)?

Maybe slip Moore into a B- with Magic and swap Bevan and Monty around.

Unless you actually define what the criteria are for each grading, allocating grades to players all seems a bit arbitrary.

cant believe bolton is only a B grade according to some he is A grade, absolutely brilliant defender right up there with Scarlett and Rutten as the top 3 defenders.

yeh i thought that afterwards then thought oh well its all useless discussion anyway.

All i thought in my head was an example of each sort of level and who else in the league could be considered at what level. personally right now id say ablett is the best player in the comp so if he is an a or an a+ then this is how i rate our list in comparison i guess.

Like most ratings and standings in footy its hard to say how accurate it is etc, but ive seen similar in the herald sun before.
