tackling in the swans vs pies game.

There's been a lot of talk in the media this week leading up to the game about how Collingwood has out-tackled the swans in the previous 4 encounters between the 2 side. Even Paul Roos has an article about it in today's THE AGE newspaper stating that the swans need to lift their tackling intencity against the pies. My only worry about this is, are we going to see lots of dodgy free kicks being paid to both teams because of this lift in tackling intencity, thus resulting ia a dull, boring match to view, and a game that is ultimately decided by umpiring decisions/interpretations and not the players and the superior game plan?

The point is that with the dumping of Schneider, Dempster and Davis - our three worst tacklers and lowest work rate players will will be better able to match the pressure than last season. It will be a match not for the faint hearted - on or off the field.

Apart from Jack, LRT and Bevan, there are not too many Swans that know how to tackle.

There is that little known player Kirk who can lay a few tackles.

Edit: oh, I get it, only NSW boys can tackle. What about Playfair then? Didn?t he play union for Shore?

Sorry I forgot Kirk. Haven't seen enough pf Playfair regarding his tackling.

If white men can't jump, non new south welshmen can't tackle. Not in their genes.

Davo can tackle he just exercises his right not to. But when he does it is champagne tackling.

Kirky and Playfair are both sky blue.

Lrt and Davis are only 1st generation sky blues....so their tackling genes are diluted by the Tassie attitude that "tackle" is only for fishing for trout up in the Central Highlands, or for weddings

Many know how to tackle - it's having the pace to catch them that is more the worry

Finally the Mase brings some sanity to this thread. There are many things the Swans team can be accused of lacking but tackling intent isn't one of them. I reckon pretty much every player in the team would be, at worst, average compared to players who play similar posiitons in other clubs and the above list shows many are well above average.

Quite apart from Kirk and the ex-rugby/league contingent, Jude has really stepped up his tackling efforts this year, back to where they were a couple of years ago.

Marty Mattner is a superb tackler, both in terms of his work rate to lay tackles that really matter and his "crunch factor" when he lays them.

Ryno's having a great season in many departments but I think specifically he's taken his tackling up a notch or two. When he gets hold of a defender in the forward 50 he rarely lets them go.

And Craig Bird was a tackling machine at U18 level. Right now he's probably not got the endurance required to get to enough contests to be considered a senior tackling machine but he's laid some absolute beauties so far in contests he has got to.

I far prefer watching LRT when he DOESN'T have the ball to be honest.

We have some really good tacklers in our team.New boys Jack and Moore are ferocious and I wouldn't like to be on the end of one of their tackles.Add them to our already good tacklers and I think we can win if all the boys are on cue.

The tackling ofMoore has been a major difference in the forward line. With ROK and Bevo (when he's up there) we probably have the best tackling small/ish forwards in the comp.

Agreed, much better pressure and tackling than Schneider. Perhaps one of the key reasons they traded him - knowing Moore was in the wings but they could get something for Schneids.
