What got me was that LRT missed a key tackle in the Hawks forward 50 that resulted in a goal. Yes it happens, but it was "Defence 101" and showed that whilst his unconventional style may confound some, it means jack when it counts.

I'm not saying he should be shunted completely but he needs some time in the reserves.

Totally agree on Grundy but would need some shuffling in the back half.
Captain, I am detecting large quantities of win in this sector

LRT looked as flexible and nimble as a road block today.

Nothing special, but then again the Hawks are kinda potent up forward and any team would do well to retrict them to what they scored today.
That's how I saw it too. I think where he comes undone is that his second efforts are not sharp enough - it's the same when he's on Richo, can beat him on first contact then doesn't follow up.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Yep the hawks are terrific, much improved, very hard at the ball and the man with the ball.
LRT was made to look pretty ordinary by BF, but he is the best tall forward around ATM.

Franklin convincingly beat Bolton too, after he was moved onto him. Sure, Bolton won a few contests but Buddy was dominant in every department other than his goal kicking. I thought LRT was reasonable on him in the first quarter - beat Franklin a couple of times in aerial contests. Sure, he was no match at ground level but then few are.

I see Grundy as more of a forward than a backman, based on where he's played his best magoos football, particularly this year. But even if he does land up in defence, I think he's more of a Richards type than a true gorilla. He's not tall enough for a Franklin and doesn't have the leap.

If we currently have a type in the reserves to add some height and leap to the backline, I believe it is White. He's been thrown around the ground a bit this year in the reserves but I think he's played his best football at FB.

                  Interesting observation in The Age:

Collingwood had employed a similar tactic on LRT last week, seeking to funnel all play through LRT's opponent. So the Swans kept the defenders rotating to keep LRT high up the field, switching him constantly from Williams to Jarryd Morton. Before long Ted Richards, who began forward, was switched back and LRT tried as a forward before being benched. It is not the first time these tactics have been successfully employed against the Swan and makes for a troubling question on where he goes now.

I think C Bolton did better on Franklin than LRT did - he beat him a couple of times and made him work hard for every possession (except the impossible ones where the midfield was hopeless). Franklin had zero trouble with LRT.

LRT is virtually a liability now - there is no spot for him.

I think there is a place in the team for LRT..... just not right now.
He's currently a shadow of the player he was 2 years ago.

He needs a spell, and needs to be told to go back and practise getting the basics perfect.

Too often yesterday, his tackles were half hearted efforts with 1 hand grabbing the jumper.... TACKLE!!! you used to play rugby FFS!

And the other thing that really pissed me off at the game yesterday was when the ball went over his head and another swan gathered the footy, LRT just watched it all unfold, as he jogged along a couple of hawks ran straight past him and pressured the player with the ball..... Where the hell was the shepherd?! simple fundamental part of the game.

Until he can do this basic stuff he doesn't deserve his spot.
