Given our drastic unavailability rate and Vezpremi kicking 4 in the ressies, is there any chance he may debut? He's a proven goal kicker at lower levels and may just be the fill in we need to cover for Monty/Davo. Who has seen him play lately?

Currie and Vesper
Where are these two at?
We should be able to do better than Nick Smith - he just looked like another in a long line of avergae mdifielders.
Have heard many good thing on both Currie and Vesper.
In the case of Currie i woul understand if they wanted to wait until next year but how good is Vesper???
What is he like as a player and critically will he get his hands on the pill and do something useful with it under pressure? -
Ridiculously early that call on Smith.
I'm not qualified to comment on the other two but it's pretty rare for our first pick in the draft, to play senior footy in his first season. So I'd be surprised if Vez gets a run.Bloods

In an ideal world, would have been good to throw Vespa in as a shock-tactic, but with just one week back from a lengthy injury lay-off before the Hawks game, he would have been way underdone.
Now that Smith got the nod, we should keep him for a bit and give him a chance. I don't believe it does any good at all for the development of young players to promote them for one week and then dump them again right away. They need at least 2-3 weeks to adjust to the frenetic pace and develop some confidence.
With Bird and Jack still among those learning the trade, we don't want to throw too many young blokes in at once; especially now that our squad is relatively down on experience from where it normally is, with BBBH, Buchanan and Fossie all out (and also Crouch and Mathews from our 2007 best-22, although they're probably no longer realistic contenders for a game).
Currie is a definite 2009 prospect. If he is a potential 200-game ruckman, the consequences of throwing him in before his body is 100% ready would be disastrous. And as bad as Everitt has been the last couple of weeks, it would be naive to think that in Currie's first half-dozen games of league footy, he would play better than Everitt would.Comment

I doubt he will be promoted any time soon though as his fitness is way, way down. He is only ever on the field for shortish bursts and comes off absolutely stuffed as he is like a tornado out there.
He would definitely give the team an X factor that's been sadly lacking, but I reckon Grundy or Schmidt will be the next one in and rightly so as they have both been playing very well, are reliable shots on goal and certainly deserve the chance.Comment

give smitty a bit of slack. i remember ablett being garbage in his first three seasons.
surely 2 games against the best 2 teams in the comp really dont give much of an indication.
look at others like spida who are real list cloggers. nearly a blessing that amon is suspended as that is another opportunity.Onwards to Victory!Comment

Realistically, Schmidt and White are probably the only two chnages this week.
Schmidt for Buchanen and White for Everitt if they so think (LRT can ruck and White to play forward).
Vespa could be a possibility, but it will only be for a taste of it as he does not have the fitness base yet.

Wow, when did this happen? 5 out for the season (Davis, Meredith, DOK, Schmidt, Thornton) and 1 indefinite (Laidlaw, well 2 if you count Barry Hall). Plus a few walking wounded. Depth is going to be severely tested in the coming weeks.
