    Roos in profile

    G'day,
Just a note to let you know I've posted on the Swans/Carlton result at my website/blog here. It also includes a fresh post of the entire profile of Roos I wrote for [SYDNEY] magazine in the Herald early last year.
    Bits & pieces
    cheers

        Nice piece nmac. Thanks.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Really nice work. I'm surprised that the(sydney)magazine don't gobble your copyright whole and prevent you from ever re-printing it yourself. Anyway, I'm pleased they don't.

          I particularly like the following:

Goodes reckons that if Roosy yells, you know he really means it - so take notice. But the coach hates doing it; it must be on The List as a no-no.
For all that people whinge about Roos (and hey, find a club whose fans never whinge about their coach), I will always vastly prefer a coach who is calm and has a sense of equanimity in a crisis about him, to a ranter, yeller and fist-pumper. And the fact is there are too many of the latter, and not enough of the former, in footy.

By the way Neil: Has anyone ever mentioned how much you look like Michael Stipe?

Way off topic (kind of, but the whole calmness thing started me thinking about it): incidentally, my nomination for the next coach of the Swans is a guy whose picture I'm looking at, at the head of the page, right now. (I know we have a rotating header, but it shouldn't be too hard to guess!) Seriously. And not just to piss off ROK Lobster, either.

One thing I really like about Roos...

In Roos's world, there are things that matter more and he's reading and thinking about them: heaven, reincarnation. Life and death are the only things that are truly a matter of life and death. Not football.

HERESY!! C'mon, how many us nearly died in 2005 (the QF, SF and GF) and 2006 (the QF and GF)?

Seriously, thanks Neil. I like your work.

For a footy coach, I found this revelation very compelling. He's as much a life coach to the players and support staff.
Worsfold's attitude towards Roos was also very profound, that he watches his media work just to learn, and he would never try to win a game against Roos 'just to stick it up him'.
