The Importance of Fans ... By Adam Goodes

    The Importance of Fans

And I know what that feels like. I've got great memories as a youngster of my mate Andrew, my cricket coach Neil and I always going to the Anzac Day match between the Pies and the Bombers. I was a huge Collingwood fan.

    Oh Goodesy.

    Why?

(The wheels of the bandwagon have just started to wobble!!)
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Are there any current Swans players who were fans of the Swans when they were young?

Good question. We should put it to the club.

Not many from memory - when they ask the question in the Player Profile section of the Record, not many have said "Sydney or SM" over the years.

            Not at all.

Davis lived in Sydney, was brought up in Sydney and his only living memory of watching his Dad play footy would have been in a Sydney jumper.

The fact he decided to support a francise with no history from the other side of the country instead of the Swans (or any of the other 3 clubs his Dad played with) is, well, as connolly said 'interesting'.

That's all connolly said, 'interesting' and I agree with him. Your crusade to sink the slipper into connolly at any opportunity is also 'interesting' but I have my own opinion on what 'looks pretty stupid' at the minute.

Kirk has confessed to being an ardent Swans fan. He's said all he wanted to ever do was play for the Swans, not just play AFL.

I think I've read somewhere that LRT and Jack were Swans fans growing up. Of the other local players, there was an article on McVeigh a couple of weeks ago where I think he admitted to being a Bulldogs fan. (It might have been another club but it wasn't the Swans.) Don't think I've ever read about Bevan's club of choice.

                I agree BBB.

I think people take his comments pretty seriously when in reality he's a bit of a claytons troll.

                  What a load of bollocks.

To criticise Nick Davis, as Connolly has done, on the basis he didn't support Sydney as a kid is simply part of his concerted, unfair and largely unjustified campaign to discredit Davis.

You don't find it unusual that a kid would not support the club his own father played for and it's the only side in the city he grew up in, but one on the other side of the country that he seemingly had no family ties with ??

I don't find it the least bit unusual that not one of the players we recruited from Vic, SA, WA or anywhere out of Sydney did not follow the Swans.

Not at all. Craig Davis played just 9 games for the Swans - when Nick was 8 years old.

Are there any current people using RWO who once supported another team?

Sorry its a little of topic.

What about when coaches move on to other clubs,do their kids and wife change teams because they want too or are forced too?

I've never minded a thread of mine being derailed ... go for it.

I've never supported another team, but then I jumped on the (ALF/VFL) bandwagon in the 80's.
