    Hard bastards

I was thinking about Daryn Cresswell the other day, what a hard bugger he was. He was great. Who's you favourite swans hard bugger?

I don't eat animals since discovering this ability. I used to. But one day the lamb I was eating came through to me and ever since then I haven't been able to eat meat.

Paul Kelly without question - no harder bugger or bigger heart than him. The captain is number 2 (sorry Kirky - you are my favorite player though)

I did but I was too young. I was more intrigued by the Palm Trees 'cos at the time I thought they only grew on Gilligan's Island.

My parents reckon he was routinely roughed up.

Yep, I am an old bugger (50 today). Was a junior member in the 60's. What you see in the champions like Kelly and Kirk he was able to do in the mud, in the wet etc. he was one of the few who could scoop up the ball with one hand on a full run. Everyone at the ground in the 1970 1st semi final felt for him as it was obvious he was one of the gentlemen of the game that never saw great team success. Near the end of his career they published a photo of him describing all the broken bones and injuries he had - never seen anything like it. Watching Kelly and Kirk and remembering Skilton, I can assure you the swans have been blessed.

I went for Kirk just ahead of Kelly 'cause in the end Kelly's injuries forced him into retirement, whereas Kirk keeps playing like he's almost unbreakable.

Love the Captain and Kell no doubt, also Hey Jude impresses as a hard nut. Gotta say though that Tadgh dislocating and then popping the shoulder back in, twice, is pretty inspirational. Never saw Skilton though.

Wade Chapman was very much an unsung hero in relation to being tough in the way he dived in for the footy. His body probably didn't cope with the battering he sent it through every week.

But as Cruiser said you don't forget a guy that can get pollaxed by an opponent in a final yet spring STRAIGHT UP. You don't get many players as honourable yet fair as Brett Kirk.To make matters even better the guy is a top bloke & a Buddist greenie as well!
