    Hinds blasts Swans PR

I don't usually agree with Hinds but he's spot on with this article. The soft PR stories constantly proffered up by Swans PR, and the club's refusal to subject itself to any sort of scrutiny particularly when playing poorly, has been on my nerve for a while. Members, supporters and sponsors deserve better when they pay a lot of money to watch crap like last week.

Swans are out of sight, but they don't mind - realfooty.com.au

Then there is the short-sighted approach of those Swans players who believe their only obligation to promote the game is to get a kick on the weekend. The unofficial media policy is to refuse all interview requests when things are not going your way and, if you are dragged before a microphone, to utter only the most mind-numbing cliches - a strange way to enhance the club's profile in a city chairman Richard Colless regularly describes as "the most competitive football market in the world".

Gees I hope this is one of those statements that really comes back and bites them in the ass....

While they sit six points clear in fourth spot, notionally well placed to make a serious premiership challenge, the Swans are given little chance of being anything but nuisance value come September.

Apart from which the article is wrong 'cos we are only 4 points in front. They never seem to be accurate with the reporting. How hard is it to look at the ladder?

Any wonder considering some of the crap that passes as journalism these days. What do the media fraternity expect?
Why would you want to offer them up anything?
Barry Hall has his women trouble exposed and played out?
Nick Davis offerred a tiny sound bite to the Tele when cranky about being dropped and has been on a downhill slide ever since?
        Roos is accused of cheating?
Is Hind and Caro the same person?

Despite a hard draw, the Swans can still get back on track this year, starting with Sunday's match against the Western Bulldogs. Hall is at least fit. Goodes gets a break before the finals. Funny things happen in September.

But, out of the spotlight, the club's decision-makers will have glimpsed the future and been reminded how much is to be done if the Swans are to be headliners in the future.
For once, I can't disagree with the article.
He's spot on (except for the six points bit).
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

            Speaking of crap journalism....

This little nugget in a puff piece from the Terror.....

Hall failed to make an impact in the Swans' 24-point loss to the Blues, finishing with just six touches, three marks and one goal from three scoring shots after returning from a club-imposed two-match suspension for his round 14 lack of discipline.
            Way to go Tim Morrissey....

O'Keefe says don't write off Hall

Actually, we are just four points ahead of the Roos on the ladder.

I like Richard Hinds' stuff - definitely one of the better sports journos around. He was the first to write about the no d'heads policy.

He's right today about the Swans' aging list, but I don't totally accept his main complaint about the omerta approach to the media (which BTW he's made before this year).

Talking to an SMH hack isn't the only way the club can promote the game in Sydney.

None of the players have anything to say that would interest a journo except for stuff that would create a cheap headline. Better that happens to the other 15 teams.

And no journo could complain about the lack of news coming out of the Swans this year -- tanking, tunnelling, Goodes, Hall, 19th man, lost point.

I suggest Hindsy spend more time on RWO. We got the scoop this week on Crouchie coming back to play on Aker - as told by Tadhg at quiz night (well done Lucky Knickers). That's what happens when you let players loose in public!

But they still need to win 2 more games to leapfrog us. May as well be six points clear.

I think it's a combination of lazy journalists and the Swans trying to be as boring as possible.

At least Leigh Matthews tries to be interesting (and controversial) in his Monday press conferences.

Hinds comes across as a bit of a bleeding heart in this piece but it's been a characteristic of Roos tenure, the seige mentality, the us against them (AFL heirarchy, media, etc.). It's been part of delivering a premiership but I do wonder long term, with membership declining recently, whether it's going to come back and bite them, particularly when WSYD18 comes on board.

How come Jimmy Main the club historian who knows everything about the Swans didn't break the news on Crouch. I bet he was filthy when he logged on to RWO and realised he had been gazzumped.

                            Your slip is showing James.

                              Hinds is OK, clever wordsmith.
I don't read that other cerebal journo: Barry Hall.
