    New No.13 Vs Old No.13....

Didn't Vezpremi had a cracking first game??? Could of easily been the match winner had he hit a couple of the four he missed.

It's obviously still early days but FWIW, I think I prefer this number 13 to that guy that was running around in in 13 last year....

Pretty impressive debut but I kinda expected that. First time I saw him play it was clear that this is a guy with confidence in his ability and he showed few signs of stage-fright today. His tackling in the forward line was good and he'll start nailing those snaps before long.

His best bit of play for mine was a perfect little handball into the path of McVeigh for McVeigh's 5th (I think) goal. He just hung onto the ball for exactly the right length of time and read McVeigh's run perfectly.

That was my favourite bit of his play too. Shows he has got good footy smarts.

Very happy with him, and I was pretty pleased with Brabazon as well.

You could just tell watching the reserves that Eski and Vez would look very comfortable in the seniors and make an impact.

I haven't seen the game yet, but having listened to it on the radio, he sounded pretty impressive.

I think it was the best first game for a Swan in quite a while.
He showed a bit od Dash and Courage.
Got a few kicks and was not over awed by the occassion.

He looked a league footballer and so maybe more games this year.

I also thought Crouch played a good game today

I kind of thought the same thing. The difference being, that he may well be able to use his talent the way Nick Davis could have.

Nick Smith, Brabazon and MOD had intensity in their first game. As you'd expect. But the Vespa had something else. Call it... presence. He didn't just do the 'young kid trying hard' things; he did things that you can only legitimately expect from someone who's had 15 or 20 games at the top level. And he's super-well-built for his age.

Barring injury, you'd hope he's played his last game of 2nds. Not just for 2008. Forever.

I remember when Grundy had his great debut, Malcolm Blight on the commentary kept saying that he tends to discount a player's first game, whether it's really good or really bad. And it was a sensible comment from him. Reg, and then Barlow, probably had debut games as eye-catching as Vez's, but both have struggled to get close to repeating it.

But there was something about Vezspremi's game today that suggests he'll slot right in and won't look back. No doubt he'll have quieter games than today's along the way but he belongs at this level, not least because he knows he belongs at this level. We just have to hope he has his mind set on becoming a star, rather than just a pretty good player.

And I did sound a note of caution after Grundy's first game; I failed to sound a similar note after Barlow's, but I think that was somewhat justified because for my money he looked just as impressive for his next 3 or 4 games in 2007.

But I agree with you that the Vespa can and should realistically set his sights at a level where, even when his form tapers off, he's in our best 22 for good.
