No, he's not. Don't get me wrong, I really like Bevan's work this year and he now deserves a place in the first 22, but he's not one of our most valuable.
O'Keefe, Goodes, Jolly, Kirk, B1, B2, O'Loughlin, Hall, Crouch, Mattner, Richards, Kennelly and probably a few more are still way more valuable than Bevan.Bevo bandwagon driverComment

He'll probably finish top 10 in the B&F this year, but so will Mattner and Ted's got a great chance too. Doesn't yet mean he's in the top tier of players. Monty finished 4th, I think it was, in our PREMIERSHIP year but he's not been able to sustain it.
He deserves plaudits for a very competitive and much improved season. Watching players improve is, in many ways, more satisfying that seeing them burst onto the scene as very good players to start with. It's why Luffy became such a cult figure at the club - made the transition from journeyman to become a super player for a few seasons, including a top 3 B&F figure and arguably BOG in the first half of the 1996 grannie. Dunks did a similar thing - was just a so-so defender for many years and then suddenly became one of the best FBs in the competition in 1996, and was able to sustain it for most of the rest of his career. It's also why we're getting so much pleasure out of McVeigh's year this year.Comment

Just for clarity could you rank the Swans best 22 from 1 - 22....or at least the next 5 after you get to Bevan? (I understand if you don't want to do this....I couldn't be arsed.)The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.Comment

Does anyone remember Leigh Matthews comments as Bevo received his Premiership Medal after the 2005 GF?The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.Comment

All too well and I totally agreed with him. He had the easiest day of all of them - sitting on the pine watching the game putting in very little (the few minutes he was actually on the field) and gets the spoils at the end. I felt for Vogels he was shafted that day for sure. But we all know that the king of the cardigans , connolly, will say otherwise.I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Mathews is a dead set misanthrope. He is the only convicted criminal in the history of the game whose conviction resulted from one of the most cowardly acts ever committed on a football field. As for lucky the cheap thug had the great luck to coach a team of champions who fell into his lap, coach another premiership team in the worst year in living memory for football, be named ahead of the great Laurie Nash in the greatest footballers of all time (luck unbelievable) and is now being consistently out coached every weeek by all and sundry. His comment about a young courageous footballer at a grand final presentation was gratiutous and wrong. Bevan played an essential role in 05 as a defensive midfielder. In the time he was on the ground he applied tremedous physical pressure on the WC midfield, which in case Mathews missed it was an essential part of the Bloods (winning) game plan. Bevan also played a very good third quarter for the time he was on the ground, playing on Fletcher. The only reason that i remember this arse clown's disgraceful comments is that they demonstrated clearly why he shouldn't be let near a microphone when his coaching days (mercifully for Brisbane) come to an inevitable conclusion. He was a dirty sniper when he played and is a dirty sniper as a commentator (Goodes is a favourite etc). He has no credibility whilst Bevan proves himself every week as a hard but fair sportsman. Something the little thug wouldn't recognise even if he fell over one.Bevo bandwagon driverComment
