    The swans problem

All that ailes the swans is the midfield.

It was never great, and the young guys are doing well for their age, but look back at the 05/06 years and you've got Goodes, Fosdike, Buchanan dominating.

IMO the problems in defense and attack all stems back to the midfield.

On the positives though, Jude looks back in form. McVeigh has lifted, and hopefully Goodes can get back to full fitness before finals.

Everitt shows just a little glimpse of form at the end of the freo game.

Is it the midfield's fault that our forwards have missed so many shots at goal this year? How many games would we have won this year if we had kicked straight?
Are the midfield responsible for Hall decking Staker? Are they selecting the team and deciding our game plan? Did they strain Mals calf?
It is a bit much to say that our only problem is our midfield when many varying factors contribute to the form of a team over the course of a season.
Also, I might have a short memory, but I can't recall Fosdike ever consistently dominating games. I know he was great in the 05 GF, but I only ever really regarded him as being serviceable (may be a tad harsh?).

our gameplan is more to blame then the midfield imo. And that comes down more to the fact that the game has moved on. Very rarely does any facet of our team get soundly beaten, even our midfield on a bad day is not too far away. But with our former precision gameplan not working like it once did, then we are always going to struggle. Our forward line bar Micky O has struggled this year (though Hall is beginning to look almost servicable again, it needs to continue for us to have a shot.)

Most of all however, its the cycle of footy. It was always going to catch up with us, like it does every team at some stage. Even the seemingly invincible geelong of the current period will hit a time where they are not the dominating force they are now.

no, as important as the midfield is, our strength had always been our stingy backline
we are missing a couple of important links and hence conceding more goals
if Leo and Mal are fit and can come back we'll be so much better off
"As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.

Tend to agree. We've missed Leo more than expected. He's the general back there and we seem lost without him.

Craig Bolton has certainly missed him. His form since Leo went down has probably been the worst since he joined us.
