McVeigh missing in the big uns

McVeigh has come a long way this season- it may just be me but I dont think he has played his best games when we have lost. I havent gone back and looked at his stats but my perception is he has played his best games in wins??

This is either heavily tagged in games we lost and couldnt have an impact or has gone missing in the bigger games?? What do you think

His highest disposal games have been wins over St Kilda Carlton West Coast Brisbane and the 2 loses to the bulldogs.

He is getting more heavily tagged these days. As I said a few weeks ago, it is a fresh new challenge for him to overcome and it will be a tough one. I believe he was tagged by Ling for a while and you don't get a much tougher ask than that.

I reckon its the biggest challenge/compliment. Jude was the other who got Ling a lot last night and you can see the difference a bit of experience makes, as he was more resourceful.

Macca will no doubt be tagged a fair bit in years to come, and I can see him coming through it...he's turning into a fantastic player for us....some take longer than others, I'm looking forward to watching him learn how to break the tag, there arent many fitter than him...so I reckon it will be pretty exciting.

his role is changing within the side and a player who is a good example for mcveigh is ling himself. He hit some awesome form in his career then struggled a little with expectation and his role in the side, but he has adapted to become a premier player in the comp.

I am confident mcveigh can keep going and is going to be a huge key to our future. Look at his brother nowadays and i think Jared is going to be the better player all up of the 2.

Just part of the education of a midfielder. They all get identified sooner rather than later. He just has to learn to cope.

Good points from all, he probably has been under more attention with better quality taggers against the better teams. All part of the learning curve.

No he wont put in against the harder teams and the bulldogs arnt one of those

He isn't going missing in the big ones, he's being tagged, or tagging, in the big ones. He'll learn to deal with tags, but it takes a bit of time. We'd all love our midfielders to have the ability to shake tags in their first year like Rhys Palmer, but that just isn't reasonable. His years spent playing as a tagger should help speed up the process. He'll need to put on a bit of weight though, to help him break tackles. If he could bulk up to the point of his brother, even if it meant a slight drop in his stamina, he'd be able to break tags a little more easily, I reckon.

And though he's improved this year in his hard ball wins / clearance work, his best is still when he's on the end of a feed from someone else and can use his running ability to best effect. The Swans turned the ball over so often under the pressure from the Cats that a lot of his running would have gone unrewarded.

If you want to talk "missing", its ROK and Jolly who should be in the firing line. For two of our better players, when they go missing they really do disappear entirely.

Completely agree with that. McVeigh, while he obviously struggled to deal with Ling, managed to stick his head up and kick two goals, and get a few classy touches. O'Keefe did nothing (and he's my favourite player, so that's hard for me to say), and Jols was very quiet as well. McVeigh gave much more than those two.

There will always be a time when the hunter becomes the hunted and thats the case with McVeigh. Unfortunately I dont see him being physically strong enough to break a tagger.
