    Collingwood by 15.

I am sick and tired of going into these Collingwood games believing we can win. The reality is that Mick Malthouse has the wood over Paul Roos. Put simply: when these two sides meet, Malthouse in the better coach; no if's but's or maybe's.

The last lost was personally particularly significant. Once again, (for the
1000th time it seems), I went to Homebush feeling like Gough Whitlam and the Labor Party in 1972, it was time for victory. Once again, (for the 1000th time it seems), I left the ground bitterly disappointed. (And that particular loss also represented the negative turning point in the Swan's 2008 season).

So in my view, it takes an optimist (or a masochist) to think that Sydney can beat the Pies.

As I stated above, so many times in the past 5 years, (particularly in seasons 2006, 2007 and 2008), I have thought it was our time to win... we were due... only to be disappointed.

The record since Round 21 2003 stands at just 2 wins and 6 losses. And only two of those 8 games were away from Sydney.

Even when on the mere two occasions when we HAVE beaten Collingwood in the past 1/2 decade:

    -both games were in Sydney;

-in both seasons we finished either top 6 (2004) or were the premiers (2005), whilst they finished bottom 4 in both years (13th in 2004, and 15th in 2005); and

-the margin was only by a goal (2004), or a point (2005).

I'm sick of taking the bait. In Round 21 this year I'll be as usual supporting Sydney, but this time I'm tipping the Pies.

PS. Yes, I know the games at Telstra Dome, where Collingwood? record is perceived to be not the best. That perception is however ill founded. For the record, since 2000 Collingwood has had 26 wins and 23 losses (or 53.1%) at Telstra Dome, compared with 60 wins and 59 losses for the MCG (or 50.4%) for the same period. And the Swans don't exactly have a great recent record themselves at Telstra Dome, having only won one of the last five games there, and that win was by just two points.

top 40 - you have hit the nail on the head. I really dont believe the hoo har about grounds etc. players adapt to any ground. Collingwood have the wood on us - have done for years. Every now and then we get a win, but thats about all. Same goes with the Crows - beat us to hell and back for years and it was just pure luck that we haven't met them in finals in recent times.
I can honestly say I rarely go to Homebush and think we can beat the Pies (it annoys the tripe out me but its the truth.) and I fear that we still cant beat them in Melbuorne this weekend (I do hope that I'm wrong!).
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

As much as I hate to say it, we will probably get smashed by them.

Trusting Tim Morrisey's version (shudder), it seems our coach sees this game as less a step on our ladder to finals glory than a test of our list. Then again, maybe it's all just words for motivation.

It's crunch time for veterans as club looks to rebuild | Herald Sun

I hope we win to get some finals experience into young legs, but I think realistically, it is a 50:50 proposition to win.

I'd like to see Roos really pull a swifty and name Currie, Spida and Jolly. Obviously Vez and Jack deserve a recall. As to who goes, no idea aside from Ablettand possibly Monty.

Not that I want this to happen, and I'm not sure if anyone has mentiones this yet, but actually, if you do some calculations, the swans can still finish in the 8 after losing both their last 2 matches. We need the saints to lose both games and Brisbane to lose to Carlton this weekend, and we still finish in 8th spot. But like I said, I dont want this to happen.

Both Neil Craig and Mick Malthouse are superb and often under rated coaches. Our man Roosey is a terrific bloke and personally popular with the players who totally respect him. It comes down to a question of can a motivated swans player outfit outplay a well drilled machine. As soon as we start to win an aspect of the game it is closed down and our players really have to think it out for themselves. There is no magic game plan to beat Adelaide and Collingwood other than to be flexible and adjust instantly to the coaching moves made by Craig and Malthouse to upset our play. Hence during a game kicking to Hall may be on but 10 minutes later that option is closed and they may have to work it around the boundary. My vote is to give the players the freedom to attack however they want.Hell we will lose anyway if we play the same as always. Maybe just having a red hot go is as good as anything. Just do it for Roosey and if you lose go down in a blaze of glory attacking !!

The swannies have a chance. There's always a chance.

All the swans really need to do is to pull their fingers out of their collective rear ends.

All those individual bursts of brijillance we've had so far this year must be duplicated in the one game - for at least the next three games.

                      Roosey read my post ...

You can complicate it a little bit, but I'd think we'd be silly to do the same thing over and over again and get the same result.

Pies won't get same old Swans: Roos

Yes the Woodward and Bernstein of the great code really has scooped the fourth estate with this bell ringer:

The enigmatic Davis is also likely to be put up for trade or delisted after running out of second chances at the club

The only enigma with Davo is why he remained so long at the club. Only Morrissey could miss the main story - the saliva dripping prospect of the Bevanator/Daisy clash.

Now I don't always find myself agreeing with Connolly but I have to say that "Davis" and "enigmatic" were not two words I would put together in a sentence.

The time has come to beat Collingwood.

They are depleted and we wont get them at a better time.
If we warrant September action it starts here on Saturday night.

Don't be surprised to see Rhyce Shaw play tomorrow night.Malthouse has stated that he has three fit emergencies, each ready to go.Interesting to see Presti's name there after a long absense.
