How about we forget about White and get some games into Currie?

Well the Swans did recruit Spida...
White and Everitt have played roughly the same number of games this year (13 vs. 12) and although he concedes some height compared to other ruckmen, White has been in good form averaging over 18 hitouts a game and just under 19 disposals per game making him a more than effective mobile ruckman.
If he doesn't get injured, the Swans could get at least 2 good seasons out of him.Now this is a thread that i would expect on the ego -centric, wank session that is redandwhiteonline.com...

Yes, dropped from arguably the worst AFL side since Fitzroy in 1996. It's hardly a ringing endorsement. If we need him in our lineup then we're in more trouble than we think!"As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

Everitt was 33 when we picked him up and he was decent last year.
Which would be great if we actually do play our reserve ruckmen and hopefully they work out okay.Comment

I would hope the Swans do the same - if they genuinely feel they were a chance at a flag in 2009, then go for it. Otherwise, forget it and get Currie's development going in the seniors, with a look towards a flag tilt again in say 2011-2012.

A different perspective...
I was at a function last night where a famous ex coach mentioned how it is difficult to select players in the draft. He mentioned White as a good example... he was a top draft pick under the then rules but lost his 'edge' when they introduced the ruck circle and his prime skills were nullified. he claimed had that rule not been introduced we would have seen a different White. One of the club's challenges is to predict possible rule changes that may have an impact on which players they would select.
Made me think more about the strategic challenges beyond known skills._______________

Some people on here are kidding themselves regarding Jeff White.
We may as well pick up Mark Johnson while were at it !Est 1874

If there was ever an opportunity to pick up one of Melbourne's cast offs it was last year when Travis Johnstone came up..... Not now.
(I stay awake at night thinking of how well he would of slotted into the Swans in 08)Comment

I think the underlying thing here is that some people have to realize that our chance for the flag with the current list is 99.9999% gone and will be gone no matter what happens by the end of this year and thus should stop dreaming of the idea that one or two pickups of over the hill players (See the numerous Cousins threads recently) is not going to change that!
Surely the Spida debacle (Should have got him 2 years at least before we did!) is enough evidence to show this is a terrible idea. It sounds like Currie is not far away from being ready to go so he should get first crack at being our backup ruckman next year."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

I reckon a few are being a bit hard on Spida. Certainly struggled this year (but still contributed in a few games) but I thought he was more than useful in 2007.Bloods
