    We need Cousins#2

Last week after our defeat by Geelong I put up a thread suggesting that we needed to recruit Cousins in 09, and was soundly howled down. After our pathetic capitulation tonight - and that is what it was - I ask the question again, and suggest that we need to think very deeply about this.

We might have some good youngsters playing, but they will take some time to develop. Our old heroes are on their last legs. Can we afford to be cellar dwellers for a few years? In our market, the answer has got to be no.

Cousins to Sydney is a great story. Old nemesis playing for historic rival. Can any of you say to me that if the guy is fit, which i think we can assume me his, that he wouldn't be awesome in red and white in 09.

He may have been a dickhead, he might be a dickhead still, but there's an obvious redemption story here which is very attractive. We were pathetic tonight. We wil be lucky to make the finals. If we don't recruit aggressively - and that means established talent like Cousins - we will be a joke again in 09.

Personally, I like the idea of a redeemed Ben inspiring us in 09, and giving some spark to our old warriors.

I know I'll be howled down again, but I still think its a good idea.

Why would Cuz want to play for a cellar dwelling team?

He'll want to play somewhere we he can win a premiership.

Some people on here need to get a grip on reality.

Recruiting 31-32 year olds is the WORST possible thing we could do at this stage.

We are a team who has just experienced a few great years but unfortunately things look like they're about to take a turn for the worse. Recruiting blokes who only have two years left is completely illogical because we need to rebuild from the ground up. This means drafting YOUNGSTERS, to try and get a new group together who will be around for a long time.

For a team in our position, recruting Cousins would be like putting a bandaid over a bullet wound.

Cousins is too old and can't walk past a white line without wanting to snort it. Best available kids would be better.

There seems to be an assumption we will be cellar dwellers in 09, and therefore need to take the path of bottoming out before we can challenge again. OK. That may be right, but our recent history shows we might be the exception to the rule. Who do we need to clear out? Everitt? Crouch? Matthews? Even Leo Barry? Kirk? But if you do that we have several dreadful years in the wilderness in the hope that Vespasian etc. develop as we hope. All I'm saying is Cousins has a lot to offer in 09. Those cheap jokes about him snorting the white line are just rubbish. You people have no idea. The guy is an ultra professional sportsman with a lot to prove. Given where we are at, I'd like to see him prove in a red and white guernsey.

But our premiership window is closed. It would be absolutely pointless to recruit him if you look at the big picture.

he has already signed with Collingwood, so this thread is even more pointless than when it was last aired.

On MMM prior to the game they stated that he had signed with them...I can only go by that. And it was discussed by the team for some minutes about his good relationship with Malthouse!

Let him go to Collingwood - he can replace Didak and NO I don't want him either.
