    I reckon the answers are:

1, Luke Ablett provides a tallish defensive midfielder who can kick the ball a long way. Without him we have no midfielders who can bring height etc, or long kicking to the game. however I am stuffed if I can see what he brings to the team that without him makes the rest of the team less functional. I feel Crouch provides more in an attacking sense because he brings a willingness to run at pace and in straight lines. Ablett is not great overhead, and his kicking is actually best when he throws it on the boot and hopes.

    2. contrary to the rest of the posters here I believe that LRT gets a game solely because he is a sydney kid. He is our tallest defender and this year has been given a chance on a number of power forwards and has repeatedly been beaten. He is a poor mark, his lack of coordination means he gives away frees too readily and is a liability with the ball. People will say but he beat brown - yes he beat a forward in a team which had switched off and weren't interested. However he might actually do OK against North who have a number of big lumbering forwards, as opposed to collingwood where he simply can't match up on anyone.

    3. finals experience is crap. games go up in intensity = well a little but anyone who saw the west coast - sydney game at the scg in 2005 or st kilda sydney of 2005/6 will tell you that there are plenty of games with intensity in the regular season. the converse is also true - the collingwood sydney game from last season demonstrated to me that games can be identical if they are round 21 or the first week of the finals.

I can't see any reason for leaving vespremi out. He was frankly one of few bright sparks in the embarassment that was our game against collingwood - one of only a few who is actually enthusiastic and on the way up. Frankly there are a number of players i would have left out first - including moore for example. But that is neither here nor there. Roos has made a decision as a coach (which is particularly odd given how young he was when he was playing) that he doesn't like to play first year players and wants to wait until their bodies are more mature. One can only hope this decision has some flexibility in it.

      1. What does Luke Ablett add to the midfield that makes him invaluable? The expression used was "the midfield doesn't work without him". Why?

      2. LRT - is he just the best of our limited options for a tall back or does he give us something special down the back?

      3. After Vespa's game last weekend, why would you consider leaving him out? Is fielding a more experienced team giving us that much more chance for success that it's worth going against the stated aim of giving the kids some valuable finals experience?

I know each of these questions is wide open for a cheap shot. But I'd really like to hear serious answers to each or any of these questions.
      1. Lately, NFI, in prior years he's at least got hold of the ball, but this year I suspect his avg possessions is down quite a bit.

      2. The former I'd say. He is not the saviour they thought he might be. Maybe they need to get SOS, back to give him some more pointers. Having said that he is by no means the worst backman we've had.

      3. difficult one to answer. I guess they have weighed up these options and in all likelyhod Vespa will play. Experience is a key in finals, but so is a wildcard which he offers. I hope he gets a game and kicks a bag to prove the selectors wrong.
