    Eastlake v Swans: Sunday

    SportingPulse Homepage for AFL Canberra

    Preview (PDF)

Seems the restriction is 12 in the squad altogether, not the 12 on the field at the same time as I first interpreted it. Allison says there are 16 or 17 fit to choose from so it will be interesting to see who misses out.

And the AFL Canb record tells us that Colombo is an 'indefinite' unavailable, where he doesn't appear anywhere on the recently-updated injury list. Not more 2007-style shenanigans, I hope.

Once you exclude Colombo and if you exclude Fosdike (marked as 'test' in our injury list), by my count we'll have 15 available.

That was a good read that "Record". Quite professional.

        what a waste of time

Irregardless if we have enough fit players or not the rules stink. It is unbeleivable that they are different for the finals. Suggest we need to look elsewhere to play our reserves. We lost a number of games during the year with the rules they had how does anyone expect us to win the finals with a restriction of 12 listed or rookies.

I think this is good for AFL development - no point the Swans reserves smashing the locals every year but very exciting for a junior coming through for a chance to play against the "Swans" and even bigger if they beat them in a GF. A local team winning will also ensure some media coverage and this can only be good for the game.

I only know 1 Junior in Canberra - but he looks forward to the day he can play against the Swans and even better knowing he may be in a competitive team that could beat them.

The local comp becomes stronger and stronger as more juniors want to play and we have a more competitive comp to play in - we all win.

          Cheers

            A thriller at Manuka!

            Swans 12.10 (82)
            Eastlake 11.15 (81)

            Match Results

The four-peat is alive and kicking.

Looks like Brennan, Beckmans and Terlich missed out, assuming they weren't injured.

              Does that mean Brennan's goneskis??

Holy crap. I doubt we have ever won by that sort of margin before in that comp.

Good stuff though. It's good for the youngsters to experience a bit of pressure.

ohhh so annoyed! First I didnt go to the game last night and then today I didnt go as I thought I should get some uni work done- only to miss an absolute thriller. I am going to the grand final now- so pissed I didnt go today though. Was a great day out last year I thought even though the match wasnt that tight. Should be a thriller next week and for once our reserves will not be favourites to win

Since he played the majority of the Ressies when he wasn't playing for the firsts, he was most likely injured.

                    Great win by the guys.

ETA: Brennan injured his hammy last week so that clears that up.

Brilliant news - this completes a top weekend. Very pleased to see that the Crusher was again among the best. I will be going to the Grannie - anybody who sees a Grandpa with a notebook come and say Hi.

Aaron Bruce 7th time among the best this year-- enough for another time around? Opinions from regular (or even irregular) 2nds watchers on whether he's got something, welcome.

The nicely-designed AFL Canberra footy record was fortunately wrong in describing Colombo as out indefinitely, and fantastic to see him back in the best players. Even though he's not huge, we'll be needing all the defenders with a bit of height that we can get, in coming years.

No-one seems to doubt that we've got something special in Currie, and this game just seems to confirm it.

Fosdike playing, but not making best players, would really minimise the chances he gets a call-up for the Dogs seeing that if Bird and MOL come up, we'll already be trying to squeeze 24 into 22. He must surely have some trade value, and the 'if you're over about 24 yoa and can't crack a regular game, you're gone' rule has yet to be broken in Roos' reign as far as I recall. So has Fossie played his last game for the Swans' firsts?

Unsurprisingly, the top-ups were heavily loaded with guys with a bit of top-up experience, rather than the unending procession of first-timers who often played in the minor round. No doubt made a big difference in the final analysis.

Game report from the Canberra Times.

"Eastlake had at least four chances inside 50 in the last three minutes, but the Swans rebounded and Sydney defender Peter Faulks repelled the last attack with a brilliant game-saving pack mark deep inside Eastlake's forward 50"

Great to have Columbo back from injury and playing well up back. More and more he is shaping up as the player who will eventually be Leo's long term replacement.

Fossie 32 touches. He has probably left his run too late, but if anything happens to one of our running midfielders he appears to now be fit and ready to step up.

Shades of "Leo Barry, you star!!!!"

You're right ORB, another solid off season in the gym and Columbo may be just about ready to dip his toe in the seniors next year.

I also have high hopes for him, but I sense believers like you and I will be in for a torrid time defending him early on. LRT held Jonathon Brown goalless in Rd22 and still copped it off the usual bagger brigade.
