A week is a long time in football.....

Sydney is likely to welcome back Michael O'Loughlin and Craig Bird from injury.

If it is a draw at full-time, who do you think will go on to win it in extra time and how long with the extra time go for?

        5 mins each way. i.e. 2 X 5mins = total 10mins.

Yeah I know that, but will there be a winner in the 10 mins or will it keep going?

Continue to play 5 minute halves is my understanding. i.e. There's no "golden point" To win, a team must be ahaead when the siren sounds.

I have also noticed the incredible similarity relating to the quarter by quarter results in this year's Swans v Bulldogs games

              Putting in another context:

              SCG game Manuka game

              1st Quarter Sydney 5 (goals) to 3 / Sydney 5 to 3
              2nd Quarter Bulldogs 7 to 1 / Bulldogs 8 to 1
              3rd Quarter 4 all/ Sydney 3 to 2
              4th Quarter 4 all/ Sydney 5 to 4

In essence, despite two comfortable wins by the Bulldogs, they have actually only won (in terms of goals scored) 2 quarters out of a possible 8. Just 25%. Simple solution: at the G on Friday night we just have to hold them back in that second quarter!

Thanks Top 40, thats sort of what I was trying to say. You were able to put into a much more simpler form. Must say one other thing, have had a look at the doggies forum, and there are a few people there who honestly believe they dont have much chance against us. Ofcourse theres people there that say they are going to smash(one eyed supporters, every team has those), but theres quite a few comments saying they think we have our mojo back and are going to cream them.

                  Interesting spin by Richard Hinds.

Sydney get lucky as Bulldogs find themselves with tails between their legs

                  his concluding statement:
Besides the home ground advantage, the Bulldogs will take some confidence from their two victories over Sydney this year. But the first of those (at the SCG by 18 points) came when the Dogs were hot. The second (Manuka, 16 points) was against the wounded, lacklustre Swans.

Dramatically, the tables have been turned.

Am slightly less optimistic than I was before after someone observed on BF that every team to get smashed in a QF since 2000 has gone on to win the next week! I expect the Bulldogs to bounce back as they have been a better team than us all year, but we have a pretty good chance.

At least if the trend continues, Collingwood will be out by the end of the week too

Since 2000 on a mere two occasions in a total 16 games has a lower ranked side beaten a higher ranked side in a Semi Final:-

2001 Hawthorn (6th) bt Port Adelaide (3rd) by 3 just points

2007 Collingwood (6th) bt West Coast (3rd) in extra time after a draw

Every year, the dumb "experts" get sucked into picking the previous week's Elimination Final winner, downgrading the previous week's Qualifying Final loser. And, for 14 times out of 16, those dumb "experts" have got it wrong. (I was one of those dumb 'experts' back in 2004, when St Kilda smashed us at the G in the Semi Final of that year)

See, even when a lower rank side succeeded as noted above, it was still a very close call.

I'm getting less optimistic by the day. I suspect our performance in the last two quarters against North may have been as good as gets.

Even if we go no further than week 2, it's another season in which we play in the finals.

Who would want to be a Tigers supporter, with just two finals appearances in 25 years and finishing ninth six times since 1994?

People underestimate how lucky we are to have a steady finals team, but you just highlighted the reason I enjoyed the win over the Kangaroos so much.

Some clubs struggle to make the finals at all, look at teams such as Richmond, Fremantle and Carlton. Their supporters haven't seen many finals in quite a while, but we got to enjoy an inspiring win on the weekend.

                          Soak it up!

Last night "On The Couch" Leigh Mathews showed the way the Doggies play. They bring the ball down the flanks and rarely bring the ball down the middle. He highlighted quite a few players on their own down the flanks.Hawthorn did not defend them but I feel if they go that way again we will have to pick them up.

Matthews wasn't necessarily commenting on 'That's the way the Dogs play' he was more commenting on the way to beat Hawthorns cluster.

                                From a betting site:

                                Dogs: $1.75
                                Swans: $2.15

                                Why?
