    Afl Mvp

So I'm having a watch on FS1 and Bomber Thompson has just walked out.
HE MOVES LIKE A THUNDERBIRD! Cracked me up.

    Best Captain: Tom Harley
His highlights tape was featured Dons and Port largely
Should have been Kirky. It's when you're team is down and under pressure that the real captains stand up.
He's cute as a button. Given his fiance is a Sydney girl and based up here, could he be good in some sort of coaching capacity up here? Personal coach to LRT?

Well done ROK for making Top 16. Would think he'd make his second AA team.

Good to see the expert judges know his worth.

Oh stop it with your Tom Harley fascination! I actually thought of you the other day whilst watching the 2005 Geelong SF- Harley had hair! As did GAJ, LOTS of it too.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Most of those ALPA awards are a bit on the bogus side. The MVP is fair enough. I think they usually get it right, including this year. But Jon Brown most courageous? Bit of a lack of imagination there.

And how on earth can players know who the best club captain is when 90% of what a captain does will be unknown to players outside his club? Tom Harley may well be a marvellous captain but if their vote is based on onfield achievement, let's face it, a donkey could lead the current Geelong side and they'd still be nigh unbeatable.

              Not sure you are right.

The Geelong side that is near on unbeatable right now is pretty much the same personel as 2006 when they didnt make the finals. The only differences are Selwood, Taylor, Lonergan and Blake and the last 3 are battlers at best.

The one major change is the captain. That alone means Harley must take a fair bit of the credit. He must be doing something that King wasnt.

Kirk cant be captain of the year when he is only 1/3 of the captaincy.

Some people say Football is a matter of life and death - I say it's a lot more important than that!

Another major factor is there fitness. It was about the same time that Geelong sacked there fitness coach, and they seem to be one of the fittest teams going around ATM. They run harder and longer than most other teams, as seen by the way they back each other.

I would doubt Harley has made that much of a difference.

As much as we can claim the Misson, helped us in '05, they can claim there new fitness/conditioning people have helped them over the last 2 years.

It's not about being right or wrong. My point was that most AFL players will have very little idea of what each captain does at each club. Therefore it's not an award that really means much. I wasn't trying to make a case for or against Harley, Kirk or any other individual captain. I suspect there are at least half a dozen who are outstanding leaders.
